Fitted my newly sprayed VW 14s this morning to replace the 17s that were on the car when I got it, couldn't believe the difference in the ride! The car actually handles like a GTi now - can't believe I put up with the sh!tty ride of the 17s for a couple of months. Definitely should have been the first thing I did...................Looks a bit less "max power" now as well
-
good on ya! there's a reason why vw fitted a certain sized wheel to their cars.

Each to their own i reckon like...if one size was to just fit one spec of car..they wudn make bigger sizes for that car then would they?
mine is on 17s atm, thou i doubt very many max power boys have a car like mine, but no doubt next year will see a change, but i aint goin too small n totally lowered..like everyone!!
Dinx

both look good to me mate.
im running some chav max power 17's and its much smoother than the 15's i had. Coilovers help as it handles like its on rails even with 17's on

Don't get me wrong, liked the look of the 17s, but on mine they just made the ride terrible and were busy destroying suspension components (in 2 months replaced both strut top mounts, 1 ball joint and 1 wheel bearing). My car must just be not set up right for those 17s - for instance, on right full lock they were rubbing the gearbox. Took chunks out of the inner arches on all sides. I can't afford to be repairing it every week, so they had to go.................
No offence meant to you guys that have 17s :embarassed:

A Mk2 handling will be optimum on 15" Wheels with 45/50 rubber. Like Joe says, VW fitted those size wheels for a reason.

 see..this is where that vomit smiley wud come in handy...

I love my 17's as seen in sig.
The ride is different, but the look outweighs that! :D

Beginning to wish I'd kept my 17s now - the 14s have no grip, especially in the wet. Wheelspins in the wet on take off no matter how hard I try not to. Makes for a scary ride at speed - doesn't feel as stable as with the 17s..........I think the tracking needs doing, but anything else that could be causing the lack of grip? :undecided:
-
erm..no tread?!
i still spin in 17s so sayin nothing.. lol
u not see the cab on 17's at e38..quite a few peeps agreed they looked super...tbqfh...

get a 4 wheel alignment job done mate, will cost about an hours labour but it will be loads better when it's done....
-
Tyres not bald yet - some tread there...............
4 wheel alignment.............sounds like more expense! My car just wants me to spend money all the time!

you can do your tracking for free with a piece of string

How on earth do you do that? I thought tracking adjustment meant a trip to Kwik Fit...........................
