Title: Build week confirmed - how long?
Post by: mistertee on 16 September 2013, 20:54
Hello, I've been waiting 7 weeks now to get a build week confirmation, is this normal?  I need this confirmed so I can sort out selling my existing car etc.

Might give the dealer a ring, but if they can't do anymore than what's on the tracker is it worth it?

Problem is you dont get a confirmed BW until 4 weeks before the build is scheduled to take place, and you won't know its scheduled until you get the confirmed BW.

Chicken or Egg?

Dealer can estimate though.  I would assume the lead time is currently 20 weeks if you are on a GTI.  So if you have been waiting 7 you might have another 5 to go before confirmed BW, then 4 to build and 4 to delivery.  This is a total guess though... sorry.

Bill going off topic completely for a minute, one of my work colleagues picked up a new 3 series m sport at the weekend in Estoril blue. Saw it today for the first time. Wow what a beautiful colour!!! If only VW did something similar for the GTI

Rung the dealer, BW is confirmed 3-4 weeks before the unconfirmed build.  So I'm still twiddling my thumbs.

I'm really not looking forward to going down to Kent from Manchester to pick this up as it get's closer to Christmas. At the moment, my unconfirmed is the 2nd week of November!

There are logistical problems too of trying to sell my existing car around this time, no one is going to buy a car over Christmas so it's going to cost me more in insurance and road tax!

From my experience getting a confirmed build week is only part of it.  I got a confirmed Build week 36 but am still waiting for my car to be built and go in to transit. Some others have waited a similar time if not longer.  Be sure about when you are getting the car before sorting out sale of your current one.  I should approx get my car 4+weeks after build week 36, which makes it week 40.  But we are already on Week 38 and it still is not built??

Brenbo has possibly had the worst delay of anyone on here and I feel for him.  But I would say that (hopefully) VW will have sorted out the back log and will no longer be having issues with what appears to have been a marketing decision to launch too early by the time cars ordered around now ish reach build.  So IMO I wouldn't expect delays of this sort if you order now or did so a few weeks back.  20 weeks really should be the worst case.  GTI maybe a bit better than GTD though?

Or am I being too optimistic? :lipsrsealed:

Sorry to hear about that Brenbo, looks like you have got the bad end of the deal there.

Unless we go to Wolfsburg and start building these things ourselves then there's not much more we can do than sit and wait.

Thanks Guys.  I have just been told by my dealer that it has not been built yet, now there's a surprise.  I mean what on earth is going on.  This is now the third week of being fobbed off.  I was told it is in the pipeline to be built this week, but this is exactly the same thing I was told last week.  It is absolute farce.  I wouldn't mind, but if they are going to give me a confirmed build week then build on the week not three weeks later.  I am being told as well delays are due to factory shutdown and Hail Storm.  But I put back to the dealer if that's the case why is there cars on confirmed build weeks after mine already going in to transit?  It's like the Chuckle Brothers are running the VW factory

Similar story mate, I was build week 35, but my car only went into transit yesterday (It not a case of the tracker being slow to update as my dealer was sending me a daily email as it went through each build stage!). Like you, it is not the actual delay which frustrates, but the complete lack of meaningful information/explantion from VW....

Being told it normally takes around 4 weeks from confirmed build week to retailer?! Well no, because it's not even at Emden Docks yet!

Totally agree.  it's lack of info that's the killer.
