Title: Audi A3 winter wheel/tyre combo- would they fiet a mk6 Gti?
Post by: Orlando on 14 September 2013, 21:53
Hi everybody. My first posting. I am likely to buy a Mk6 Gti in the near future and wonder if my current A3 winter wheel tyre combination could be used on the golf? I bought them from Audi last year and the invoice lists them as 'compwint 5 arm' They are 17" items and the tyres are 205/50 17s. I don't know what the offset is, or whether if they did fit, the speedo reading would be accurate? The staff at my local Audi/VW outfit don't seem to know. Hopefully forum members may be more knowledgeable!
Cheers, Orlando.

The offsets are about the same.

Thanks for the welcome Candyman. I bought The winter tyre set last year thinking I would keep the Audi for some time yet. However, having now driven a Mk6, I'm definately going to make the change and obviously want to get the use from the tyres.

Cheers, Orlando.

57.1mm spigot ring size is required for VW's

Audi A3 are the same so you will be fine

i got brand new genuine vw 16" winter wheels with bridgestone blizzak tyres, all wrapped up with VW part numbers etc on the packaging for £800

if i bought used wheels (circa £250) and new decent make tyres (£150 a tyre) it would have worked out more expensive than buying my new set which i know are right for the car and i can sell on for good money when im done with them so got a good deal

Yes the A3 wheels will fit perfectly.
Some Audi A3 wheels are 54mm offset which will make them visually sit into the arches a bit more but they will still clear the brakes and suspension ok on the Golf as it's nearly identical parts to the A3.

Thanks for the feedback! I thought that the wheels would be ok on a Mk5 Golf, as my A3 is the same vintage, ('05) but wondered whether the Mk6 had moved on and had different hubs etc. I found the winter tyres really confidence inspiring and would recommend them to anyone that has early winter starts in freezing conditions. I was very pleased to get sensible replys and will no doubt be on the forum from time to time.

Cheers, Orlando.

You can test fit one or more to my car if you like. I'm in the same county as you!

Hi mkviken

Hi Exonian, I thought you might be local, - the tag is a bit of a giveaway! That's a very kind offer, but my strategy will be when the right car and deal have been found, to have one of the wheels in the boot and ask for a technician to to fit it and check its ok, as the deal clincher. I'm likely to buy from a main dealer for peace of mind and hopefully, trying a wheel on the car (or having their assurance that it will fit and be appropriate for the Golf ) won't be asking too much.
I've had the A3 (TFSI Quattro) for 3 years, and its a lot better to drive than the motoring hacks usually give it credit for, but having test driven the Mk6, well, its another world! I'm looking forward to making the change, but am in no rush and will wait for the right car to came along.  Thanks again for the offer though, Orlando.

I've had two mk6's which says enough about how highly I rate them.
Mine will hit the dealership forecourt about November time so keep an eye out!!!
