Title: Exhausts again
Post by: spiderman on 13 September 2013, 21:35
Hi Guys

So... with a nice new engine fitted and the car now running better than ever, i figure i've got a great platform for a few tweeks to a car i intend to hang onto for a good while. I'm not into Huge hikes or silly noises, so a new filter is likely all the engine will get while its still under warranty. However.........

I've done the trawling through the old posts regarding exhaust suggestions and i can see that if i go Cat back then a non-resonated milltek system is the way forward, or I go Resonated with a turbo back system.

This made sense as when i last looked at zorsts, Milltek were the only real supplier of aftermarket products,However a subsequent search has revealed that now Scorpion, Eurojet, Jetex and Supersprint also do Mk6 GTI exhausts at varying price points.

So now my question is who has any experience of the other products?

I want something i can fit myself and my plan was for cat-back as it was affordable. I don't really want too much of a performance boost, what i want is a new zorst that will last a good long time and has nicer tail pipes, a little bit more of a growl over the OEM one would be good but otherwise i'm afraid its more about longevitiy and the look  I might sound like a tart but at least i'm honest

So has anyone any experience of the new products on the market? The Eurojet system from turbo back is almost the same price as the other Cat-back systems, this make me instantly suspicious, but it seems to be highly regarded by our colonial cousins?

All opinions and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Sandy

A cat back exhaust won't increase power by anything you'll notice, its not even needed with a stage 1 map.

Changing the down pipe/cat is where the real restrictions are and the opportunity to release some power

Before I bought my Blueflame (you won't get one of those as I believe they are no longer trading) everything I read suggested the Miltek resonated sounded like oem.

My money would be on a BCS if I did it again as you get the best of both worlds noise wise

Im going to have this TBE for sale in the next week or so. 3" Race System, its the best Milltek produce.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GOLF-MK6-GTI-MILLTEK-EXHAUST-TURBO-BACK-3-INC-CAT-200-CELL-RES-REAR-SILENCER-/230787764783?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Plat_Gen%3AMK+VI&hash=item35bc05d22f

It cost £1400 brand new. Now as it stands at the moment it has a few dents and needs a clean. So im going to get a repaired back to its best first, but its always an option for you.

It has only done 11K miles and there is no rattle at all in the race CAT. Looking at around £700

Thanks for the replies.

Ross its a great idea and much appreciated, but like you i have other things to spend the bulk of the money on (It needs new wheels and tyres in the new year as well), i'm not looking for a serious performance upgrade just a cool stainless exhaust to replace the rapidly ageing oem one fitted, hence just the cat back.
The BCS is interesting, but a long way to go and probably more than what i wanted to spend.

I'm leaning towards the Scorpion as i like the slash cut pipes, but i'll probably keep an eye peeled over the winter for a good second hand Cat-back system.

Cheers

Sandy

ps. Neil how do you find the Yoko Advan's?

Being ignorant now

The VWR exhaust system looks like the Milltek system to me? would i be correct. Also i see VWR also do an Intake kit, Where does this come from (manufacturer) and is it any good?

I assume as it is all VWR stuff it will come at a premium? but can't find anywhere in the uk you can get it to find out what the costs are?

Cheers

ps. Neil how do you find the Yoko Advan's?

Yoko Advans are the best tyre IMO for the Gti
Awesome grip, very good in the wet aswell, a massive step up from the F1s that a lot of people rave about,
They make the F1s feel like ditchfinders

Miltek do provide the vwr exhaust. And apparently is more toward the resonated (quiter) version. And itg is responsible for its intake, and from what I've heard that it provides great gain. APR's website do have a price list for most vwr upgrades.

I've Seen the VWR Cat-Back exhaust for a good price and it is very tempting.
Any good reasons not to go for it? It is Milltek so will be good and i doubt VWR would put their name to it otherwise.
Its currently priced on par with the Scorpion and Milltek.

Hmmmm............... Now all i need to work out is which Stage 1 to go for.

Thanks for that. I'm going for miltek catback or vwr catback and the revo stage1. That will be plenty for me in terms of power and nice exhaust tone. Only thing with a vwr exhaust is I think it's equivalent to the miltek resonated version. I will probably go non res.

Funnily enough, these tyres are tested as part of a tyre test in Evo magazine this week.
They highly rate these tyres, however they do not win the test but come 2nd overall......... with the F1s winning
