I did. It started to get grubby looking, dirt got under it, so I ripped them off! I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be removed as part of PDI or not....

Yes, i asked the dealer and he says all three door cars have it,did it come of easily and cleanly.?

Yeah it was just a strip of clear plastic. Peeled off easily and i just polished the paint underneath.
The edges of it had already started picking up dirt or grit and it looked naff.... They'd surely go yellowish and very scruffy after a while. I didn't see the point of them being there at all.

Yes and it will get in the way when polishing or waxing, i think i may remove mine as i can not see why it is actually there.
Cheers for the info

Exactly. To be honest, I thought it was just something the dealers forgot to remove in the PDI. No need for it.
-
Any chance if a picture of these? I'm wondering if they are some sort of protection. Some models of Audi A1 have clear plastic strip on the side of the bodywork for protection.
-
Maybe to stop the door edge rubbing the paint off the sill or stone chips if on the sill.

It's obviously been left on by the dealers for some reason so if I have them (which I will need to check) I'll be keeping them on
-
Going to check, if I have I haven't noticed them yet.

Are you not talking about the clear stone protector at the rear arch?
Quite a few cars have this.

This was a little strip of clear plastic on the door sill, bottom corner under the door handle. Looked completely naff once it caught your eye and I couldn't see the point of it other than being another dirt/grit collector so off it came. To be honest I assumed the PDI guys forgot to remove it.

Yes, that's what I meant. I'm not sure what's being described on the Golf so wasn't sure if its something like this.
-
Checked, I don't have this strip. They must have removed it during PDI.

Door sill protector. You can see the dirt getting underneath it

Which is why I pulled it off. Naff.
-
Is it clear blue plastic? That looks like it should have been taken off to me.

It's not blue Mark. Clear plastic

Looks like it shouldn't be there??
-
It's clear-ish plastic but mine was going yellowy after a few weeks so off it came. Agreed, it looks like something that shouldn't be there and serves no purpose IMO.
-
That looks like its suppose to be there to me looks the same as the stone guard stuff they use and the same stuff they use under sill trims to stop them rubbing through the paint.
The flex in the doors due to there length its probably there to reduce the risk of the door rubbing through the paint.
Remove it if your one of these people who changes cars regular or its a lease car but if your keeping the car for long term ownership I would leave it there. Its there for a reason.

I'd rather live with a few minor marks than leave nasty plastic stickers on. Same goes for mudflaps, seat covers, phone covers (!) or any of that nonsense. Safe to say if the doors are dropping off the hinges enough to cause paint damage then I've got more problems than these plastic strips will prevent.
I'll keep an eye on the sills and watch for rubbing. Never been an issue on any car for me before.
