Evening all,
Whilst driving home tonight I noticed a hissing noise coming from the front of the car. On further investigation it appears to be coming from the brake pedal area and stops when I press the brake pedal. Any ideas - car is now out of warranty.
Cheers

I've done some research and it appears that this is quite a common problem with VWs. It sounds like i have a leaking brake booster. Some dealers are saying that this noise is acceptable and some are saying change the brake booster. Has anyone had the booster changed and how much did it cost? Also is it still safe to drive the car - the brakes still feel fine.
Thanks
Matt

Thought it was worth giving an update on this. The car went into the dealer today and they have quoted £601 to replace the brake servo. The dealer contacted vw for a goodwill payment but vw have turned this down. I have now contacted vw customer services to see if they can do anything. Car is a 59 plate with 34k on the clock. Fingers crossed.

May not be related, but have u kept your brake fluid changed every 2 yrs? Just a thought.

Brake fluid always changed on schedule. Just waiting a call back from vw customer care......

Just got the car back. Vw customer care eventually agreed to pay 33% of the bill which was a big help. Also had 2 new Continental sport contact 5 fitted to the front and an alignment check. Just treated her to a tank of vpower nitro and have ordered a bluefin!
