Title: Any one running
Post by: turbokid23 on 09 September 2013, 17:59
A k04-001 if so did u have to change the manifold fown pipe etc? As my turbo broke and had a look at a hybrid and I haven't got £700 for a turbo don't mind paying around £300 for 1

K04001 is a streight Bolt on iirc. However only see around 10bhp more than k03s.

Also for 300 quid I wouldn't be expecting much.

If it was me I'd be looking to spend minimum 500.

I'd be sending the K03s to littco, it might cost a little bit more now but it will be worth it.

I no he does the k300 turbo good for 300bhp but I'm not chasing big power as getting a Subaru for that, every think seems to happen all at once aswell as people say joys of owning a golf

K03s t0 K04-001 imo is well worth it!!  I still get a huge grin on my face every time I drive my car.

If its willy waving peak pub talk power your after then the k0-001 aint the turbo for you.

If your looking for a usable 1.8T that is very quick, no lag and power on tap across the whole rpm range then the k0-001 is a must have mod.

I think the k04-001 could close on 260bhp "MAX" out, but it wont last long imo,  I know they have enough spool spike to hit over 305lbft hitting 28psi but again not good or safe for the turbo. ( it tested the peak torque on my turbo..lol)

My current map, which peaks 21psi and holds 19psi and sees 14/15psi near the red line is making 245bhp/260lbft.  It dont sound a lot, but when you see the graph and the peak 260lbft holds and flat lines from 3450rpm to 5400rpm, so 260lbft for close on 2000rpm.  Its this broad torque band which makes my car very quick.  A few map revisions back we took the car to santa pod and ran a 13.8s @ 102mph and gave a stage2  280bhp/300lbft LCR a good woop arse kicking.

my only issue if my fuel tails off at 7300rpm, I fitted S3 injectors and mapped them in, to end up with the exact same fuel issue, I think my 150k fuel pump is on its last legs.

can't be that bad.

So you post your K03s to them, pay them £375 and they send you back a hybrid?

£375 is just for a full rebuild iirc.

001 is a very fun turbo but as been mentioned they arnt cheap and you don't get massive peak power.
