So this is my first post, and actually a little sad but I can't stop worrying about my mk6 gti.
Chuffed to bits with it but paraniod it's going to get marked or scratched or even worse the sat nav unit nicked or stolen.
How do you guys cope with having your gti parked in public places knowing its like a beacon to all thiefs!!!

Hi
It's understandable to be concerned.
Good insurance (including gap if you can)
Always park sensibly I.e. well lit; busy; better areas etc.
Bottom line is that if someone wants it, they'll get it so stop worrying and enjoy it!

PS. Welcome to the forum.

why you buy a new car if you worried about it getting damaged?
-
Just be conscientious of where you park etc. I was the same initially, but there's no point losing any sleep over it. You'll feel better after you acquire your first scratch/scuff on it. Sounds silly, but it's true!

Why have anything at all??
My car was scratched outside my front door so there's no point losing sleep about what happens to the car
Its only plastic and metal at the end of the day. I'd rather low lifes damage my car than me or my family!

Hi and welcome. ^^^ this is very true. When you do get that first scratch you obsess over it but after a while you just take these things in your stride and you'll stop fretting over it in time. It is just a car.
A bit of common sense goes a long way. Avoid parking on narrow streets; park away from other cars if you can; stay away from dodgy areas and as said, consider GAP insurance. Relax and enjoy the car

Nobody can stop you worrying if thats the type of person you are.
Im sad I have another car I use for shopping, multistory cars parks etc that I dont really care about.
-
Use it and enjoy it, it may not ever happen
-
Just enjoy it, but take precautions where you park.
It can happy anywhere. I did more damage to my pride and joy on my drive by an act of brain fade than has happened to it on the street.

Cheers for the replies,
I suppose it's just head and tails above what I had before so I'm fairly protective over it.
They just look so damn good!
For info its a 3 year old gti, with 18" monzas so not exactly brand new but the last guy who owned it really looked after it

I know how you feel pal. I bought my Git new in Aug 10 and parked her at work, in a secure-ish city centre car park (Sheffield) and once found a 2 foot keyed scratch in Jan 11.........it hurt so much !!
Have only just sorted this out and only cost me £80 for a repair & spray of the affected rear door................but as everyone else has suggested; don't be too paranoid about it !! All you can do is try and park her in suitable spaces etc, but other than that...............what will happen, will happen pal !!
Since my GiT's birth in Aug 10, I've always tried to keep her clean but then the above happened. But I always parked well avoiding scratches/kerbing to my 18" Monza's too..............then I made a error, I let my wife drive and park...now I have both front and rear n/s alloys kerbed !!!
My bad for drinking on those nights !!!
She's never kerbed or even damaged any part of her new Polo though...................I don't think she loves me anymore !!

You may find that you end up parking in the far corner of supermarket car parks with 4+ spaces either side ;)
