Ok here goes. Hi all my names Quinn I'm new to this forum and new to the whole concept of forum please excuses me for any misplaced questions/posted, spelling(I'm no academic) and my lack of knowledge with this car. Thanks right I've just brought a 2001 golf gti 1.8 turbo it has a aum engine 187000 on the clock a boost gauge fitted and a dump valve a rubbish paint job but a cheap price ;)
So when I brought the car from Birmingham and drove it home it was sluggish only boosted at 4psi and the oil pressure warning popped up once. I got home have been trying to get it running right for the time being I found a split pipe under the inlet (one that goes from inlet towards oil filter) replaced that. The boost gauge was not fitted correctly so sorted that and it's running a dump valve which I'm told is a no no lol but no choice at the moment. I brought a vagcom thingy it had 11 engine codes cleared them nothing's come back on. It know boosts a 10psi but drops up the rev range???? I've checked all pipes etc bit lost really any way I'm sure with some time a persistence ill sort that.
So moving on my plan is to buy another aum block and rebuild that then a head for it rebuild that too. So my question is if any is kind enough to help me what can I upgrade in the engine and head for more power or to handle more power ie crack shaft camshafts etc and where can I get it from kind regards Quinn again I apologise for any wrong doings also my other car is a rx8 which I've done the same project with but I couldn't look to the forums for help really as there are alot of guys out the who don't know **** about the rx8 engine and advise you to do things that aren't good so the rx8 had to be done the extremely hard way which took me six and a half years to source parts and info or things plus save a buy them (alot of wasted money and trail and error) many thanks guys any interest and help would be great !!!!!!!! :)

Rx8 doesn't that have that really pain in the arse engine that people don't know how to work on? The winkle engine?
Anyway the good news is the 1.8t is an easy engine to work on. And is easy to upgrade and not hugely expensive. Your AUM will have a KO3s turbo, you can get about 220-235 bhp from that turbo with the correct mods.
-
Cool cheers mate yeah the rx8 has a twin rotary engine 13b not many people know there stuff so you can only try trust your own judgements and I kinda want to achieve as close to 300bhp if not more mate seems alot of people run around 230 bhp

300bhp will cost you mate but can be done quite easy now

Ah wicked cheers mate so is this a kit on the market now
-
You will need a Ko4 turbo
-
Is the k03s not a k03 with k04 internals ?

Nope, Ko3, Ko3s and Ko4 are separate turbos. A Ko3 with Ko4 internals is known as a hybrid
-
Oh ok thanks mate so I believe my car has the k03s do you know what I need to do to kit the k04 ?

To do it properly you'll need the turbo, manifold, oil and water lines, TIP, injectors, 3" MAF, FMIC, uprated fuel pump, silicone boost hoses, induction kit, possibly 4bar fpr and of course custom mapping. It's a lot of work considering you'll only see 30-40bhp more than a KO3s is capable of.

Surely its easier and more cost effective to use one of Dans K300 turbo's?
A standard k04 would be running flat out to achieve 300bhp wouldn't it?
Is it even possible on a AUM head?
Would need a Relentless manifold to get close.

A K04 wouldn't see 300bhp, you'd need a hybrid KO4 to do that. Personally I'd look at a big turbo instead.

did tobys car not do just over 300bhp

See looks this is brilliant do much interest and info nothing like the rx8 forum hunting I did thanks guys this is great so going on these post 1 is my aum capable of around 300bhp 2 whats the max power gain on my k03s what will I need to do to get it 3 is it really worth me looking for 300bhp my rx8 is pushing 354 wbhp so is f***ing fast in my opinion hence why it's my toy not my car but my golf is my "family car" as my misses hates the rx8 lol I have written an rx8 off twice now so no wonder she hates it but if I have a car it needs to be unique and special or I get bored and will sell it and move on I must say I like the mk4 golf and always have so now to make it mine really (I'm 23 and have had 30-40 cars now so I'm bored of changing and want to stick with the golf) I brought my rx8 when I was 17 couldn't insure it and its been garaged and worked on since I've been going through numerous motors since please give me a reason to stick with this golf :) thanks

Yeah I think it did actually, but not many do.

When you get close to the 300bhp mark standard internals sh!t themselves so you'd be wise to go for a forged setup.
Maximum power from a KO3s is around the 240bhp mark.

hoping to see 300 with the new manni and injectors when they are ready

Yeah thanks I want to upgrade my engine internals do you know any where I can source the parts

Integrated engineering do lots of stuff for the 1.8t, including forged con rods, you'll need the 19mm wrist pin ones. Pistons I would leave as they are, I believe aum pistons are forged anyway, I know agu and bam ones are.

100% the agu pistons are forged???
-
Yeah mahle forged pistons as oem. 100% certain.

What power can they handle?
-
From what I've seen the oem forged pistons are good for around 450-500bhp. But if I was close to this mark I'd want a set of bam ones, lower compression ratio and 20mm wrist pins.
