hey guys has anyone out there fitted an audi 5 cylinder 2.3 20valve engine in to a mk2 golf before. bit different I know but is it doable?
-
so no one done this or heard of it being done before?
-
never heard of it being done - but as with most things, if your determination or wallet is big enough, almost anything is possible
-
probably need a bit of chassis leg massaging and engine/gearbox mount shuffling but it would rip if you stuck a charger on there lol. and what a sound out of them. its like a Subaru with a misfire.
-
Back in the day after fu*kin around, they built space frames instead just Boogle V8 Mk2 golf
-
it is doable and has been done. seen a 5 cyl mounted both inline and transverse.
it's a lot of work tho, inline it's basicly quattro drivetrain in a spaceframe with a golf shell droped over it.
transverse it's just horrible a mk2 isn't really wide enough to get an I5 motor in transverse. things need squeezeing and ushing about to get it to go.
the V5 motor will go in much easyer as it's that bit narrower

yeah it might destroy the good handling to with that heavy lump in there. im thinking rear wheel drive conversion now lol. could maybe hook it up to a capri 2.8 gearbox and axle. got a semi retired mk2 anyway that I could bring back to life. needs welding anyway so would be piece of pish to fab up a tunnel. not sure about front subframe to gearbox clearance though.
-
mid engine is the way
-
Has anybody done a V5 mk2 would be different.
-
seen a few mk2's rocking v5's but the engines didn't stay in any of them for very long,
170 bhp out the box and it has some novelty value, engine probaly cheep as well. chould explain why they went in. bet there is jack all avalible to make them go any better so thats probaly why they all came out
never done anything to the v5's myself they obviously arn't a patch on audi's inline 5 as far as tuneing potential goes else we'd all be fitting them.

Anyone remember that blue and white mk2 from about ten years ago, pretty sure it ran a 2.3ltr 944 engine, and possibly RWD... It also ran 944 Fuchs 5 spokes that I still love to this day on a mk2
Edit. This one after a quick Google http://www.vwaudistyle.ch/portal/pages/posts/vw-golf-mit-porsche-944-motor822.php

It's a shame there are no photos of the full interior, I want to see how they covered the prop after cutting the floor virtually in two.
