Title: GTD "ticking noise" on start-up
Post by: RobS23GTI on 06 September 2013, 11:13
Hi all

Have noticed a strange ticking noise on my missus' 59 plate GTD when the car starts up, but it seems to stop once the oil temp is up. Had the car almost a year (done > 12k miles) and never noticed before.

Any ideas what this may be?

Also, I am getting cruise control fitted, am I correct to assume that this will wipe off my Revo map after the coding is done?

My gtd has always made a tappet noise when cold although not every day it seems to depend how long its left.
Google cr170 noisy lifters its extremely common. In the links it says try engine flush by forte or comma for which I've tried both which makes no difference.
Nothing to worry about just pretty annoying.

As for getting your cruise control fitted shouldn't affect your Revo map at all. Unlike the petrol the diesel should keep its software as the setting aren't adjustable so all should be ok.
