Evening All
Not sure weather to get the mk5 or mk6 gti, what's the difference between the two? Is there much? I no there is in price lol.
Cheers
-
1.
-
1? :s

The platform that the cars are based around are the same, but other than that the cars are different. They have different engines. The Mk6 has an extra 10PS. The interiors are quite different. The Mk6 is a nicer place to sit and more up to date with more toys and modern white instrument lighting.
You need to go and make your own mind up about whether you think it's worth spending the extra money for the newer car. The Mk5 is an extremely good car, but the Mk6, being newer could be said to be a bit more desirable.
-
Like dubber said the best thing to do is to test drive both. I think that's the best way to decide which u prefer. I had a mk5 and now have a mk6 and overall it's better. The only thing I don't like is the electronic throttle. Slight lag in pick up, but u do get use to it.
-
i'd only look at an Edition 30 or Pirelli on the mk5
-
Yeah really ent sure, might go test an ed30 out, the mk6s are going for stupid money, 16k+ for a decent spec, so about 19k on finance, and iv heard about all the rattles as well, that puts me off,
Any one had an ed30 or Pirelli?
-
i dont know, if you look hard yo can get a MK6 cheap. Got mine 59 plate from JCT600 Peugeot for £13,950 six months ago. Leathers, parking sensors, RNS510, 18" Monzas, Lux pack, Winter Pack etc...
Worth every penny, some small rattles which the MK5 also has. All can be fixed or suppressed.
Yes, ED30 and Pirelli are great, but 3-5 from now they will be very old and outdated. All depends what you want most....Power, Luxury, all rounded etc...
MK6 is the all round best one, just under powered to the ED30, but get a stage 1 map and you will be happy
-
As others have said in the mk5 its a no brainer - edition 30 or Pirelli however Pirelli are rare and demand serious cash, E30 can be picked up cheap but high mileage and a low mileage will be around same price as Pirelli.
Performance wise my 6 felt just as nippy as my m8's e30 - his e30 has more tuning potential tho.
For me I prefer the 6 > better interior and prefer the front end, imo it looks more aggressive than the 5.
All depends on your budget........
-
we currently have a Pirelli and Edition 35 sat on the driveway, Pirelli feels more special but the Mk6 is the better car

Hey Adam. Please do not take this in a negative way but unless you have a official/medical reason, the majority on this forum do not appreciate slang/short/lazy spelling, and certainly no 'texting' language neither please !!!
However, we are a helpful bunch so please be sensible and enjoy !

Yeah agreed RocketRossUk, get the with times lol
-
I have had a mark 5 and I'm on my second mark 6 all gti's all fantastic mark 6 cheaper to tax and more fuel efficient all depends on budget you can't go wrong with either
-
What spec are you after?
-
Yeah they are banging Charlie, If I went with a mk5 it would cost me 9k for a good condition average spec, then in 2 years I would be lucky to get 4k back for it,
Iv looked at loads of mk5s and mk6s and they have all been f**ked, 16k for a car that stinks off dog, ripped seats, no service book or service, one key, been clocked, basic spec, the car did sell, feel sorry for the person who bought it lol.
-
Dynoaudio and Bluetooth, sat nav and ACC would be nice, but you don't get everything in this world mate

i know what you mean, there are plenty of cars i see on some other forums i wouldn't touch with a barge poll and others that have had no expense spared and a pride and joy
used mk5 market is a minefield

There's so many people out there trying to make a quick earner, got to be on the ball,
What's your ed35 running at Wigit?
-
currently Stage 2 going back to Stage 1 as wife may be having it instead of the Pirelli
-
Automotive dreams in birmingham have a 10 plate for £13500 go on vw site look at there second handers there out there bud
-
Have had mk5's and now mk6. Though I loved the mk5, I'd say the mk6 is better all round car - more refined, much nicer interior and doesn't look dated (yet).
Suppose it's a case of holding out for the right one that meets your spec and condition requirements. Have you been looking long?
-
Oh right, what bhp is that Wigit? Yeah had a look Charlie, cat d, fort it was to good to be true lol, rang them up previously about another gti, rude, arrogant, dodgy ******
Yeah agree Booth11, I don't think it will be dated for about 10 years, been looking for about 7 months, hopefully I have found one, going to look on Sunday :)
-
Never bothered with the numbers Adam so who knows, I was always more interested in the handling mods which is why they are staying on
-
Yeah I know what you mean mate, what have you done to the handling? And what engine mods? If you don't mind me asking?
-
hi ive had both 5 & 6 both great cars but the 6 shades it for sheer class & build , had mine two years & love it .

Is yours a silver 5 door model by any chance,if it is you beat me to it?
-
Alright Neil, yeah every1 is saying that, it's good to a review of everyone, the one I have seem has ACC and 3 other buttons there, ESP is one, any ideas?
-
I could do with some help trying to find a induction kit for my mk6 gti 2010 bcs turbo back revo stage 1, any advice welcome ? cheers nelly
-
The interior of the 6 is a nicer place to be, with higher perceived quality of the plastics, but the 5 is actually better screwed together inside in my view - more screws & clips etc
Paint is vastly better on my 5 than 6.
The 6 is peppered with tiny chips and the soft paint scuffs at the merest hint of anything touching it...the 5 is twice as old, has never been polished and has a far better coat of paint, that chips less, is less orange-peely and more resistant to scuffs.
Oh, and the 5 has a better coat of paint on the areas you don't initially see.

Park Assist is one and Parking Sensors the other.
