Recently bought a mint golf 1.8t 150 bhp with 74000 miles in completely standard form. The torque is pretty impressive low down but could do with a bit more mid/high range I feel. Is this something that a stage 1 map from revo would sort out?
Thanks for your thoughts.

a decent map will make it feel a lot better but take it to r-tech dont use revo

This, especially considering your location. R-tech shouldn't be too far from you, it will completely transform the car!
-
Yep I've heard many good things about R-Tech actually. Just thinking will 195bhp be pushing it a bit in terms of reliability? Or are the standard internals up for it?

what year is your car

195 will prob be the max your turbo will push as you should have a k03  an standard internals will be ok

Standard internals are good for close to 300bhp. As Barry says the turbo will probably max out at about 190bhp, mine was mapped 2 years (20k miles) ago and I've had no real issues at all.

Ok I'll give it some thought - cheers for the replies.

i have a revo dealer less than 500yards from me but still used r-tech to map mine enjoyed the drive back though

R-Tech or Midland VW
Just be warned that although low mileage, be prepared to encounter perished vacuum and boost pipes galore :lipsrsealed:
Welcome to the 'wonderful' world of the 1.8T

I have a stage one AUM on a revo remap, completely transformed the car pulls like a train now! Got it done a few weeks ago on 27K miles, also fitted a 008 valve. Got it done at Falkland performance, would highly recommend them great garage. The performance of the standard car wasn't fantastic but after the remap its scary till you get used to the acceleration . definitely worth it much more responsive on the motorway than before and pulls hard anywhere in the rev range above 2K.
If you are going for a remap the common issues afterwards are coil packs failing- apparently easy to fix, MAF failures- a bit more expensive, hose leaks - more of a pain than anything else.
Overall totally worth it
-
I can certainly recommend Jody at Midland VW.
Excellent pricing that included a full health check before the map was uploaded.

It might also be worth sending a PM to Topher, he works at Midland VW and has said he can offer the Revo 'sale' price to forum members most of the time.

R-Tech all the way with 1.8T engines. he has pushed the boundaries with regards to 1.8t tuning and now includes TIV in the mapping which I have yet to see other companies use as they don't know about it.
With regards to your power figures I wouldn't expect more than 185bhp unless you have the supporting hardware to get the most out of it. i.e Milltek cat back exhaust, good induction kit (I recommend R-Tech CAI kit). Your standard 710 re-circ valve will be ok so no need to change for a 007p

R-Tech looks to be the prefered out of the two. Are there any long term issues with running a remap particularly relating to the increase fueling possibly leading to bore wash further down the line? I've heard that sometimes this can occur. Please correct me if im wrong.
-
if mapped properly then you shouldn't have an issue. things that could cause problems when going for a map are split PCV system, weak fuel pump
-
I've had my 1.8T mapped for a few years now, not had any problems at all
-
sounds good, btw what is TIV?
-
Throttle/torque intervention. Hard to explain but you wont have it due to the age and year as its a earlier ECU.
R-tech all the way. They are top of the game for VW tuning....without doubt.

Id go to midland vw. They know there stf. I just came from there
I will be getting my 4mo mapped there when i have spare cash

Another happy Revo customer here
This site is bias to R tech, even though they only do one generic map.
The Revo map has also been well developed, but can be tweaked once on your car. ie, I had mine adjusted for 95 ron unleaded, not super as that's what I wanted.
R tech remap is tuned for 98ron.
My other AUM Golf GTI has a remap Science £200 remap, which is actually quite good too. No probs so far
-
We're only bias to R-Tech we have very good experience from them
My mate has a stage 1 Revo map on his AGU and it does feel good, maybe a little too harsh on the boost though

Had a look on R-tech website and they seem to offer Revo maps aswell?!

I rang R tech when I was after my map, they told me they have 1 map, and that's a 98 ron map which they recommend
I asked if they could do be a custom 95 ron map, which they couldn't.
So who do I believe? You or R tech.....MMM let me think
Oh, and how the f**k can it be custom if most people have it??

r-tech prob told you running your car on 95 would not see the best results   an you didnt want to pay to extra for decent fuel
and ask this guy if he has a generic map supposedly the only 1 r-tech have as you say

every r-tech map is custom to each car as no engine runs the same, every car produces different power figures depending on health of the engine and is tweeked/customed to suit. They don't just drop the map on and send you on the way (That's a generic map) they upload a base map and the custom it to each car changes the values for VVT etc and take into account strength of the fuelling system, air intake system, AIT etc etc

Just tried to find the email, but its deleted as it was around April. :embarrassed:
I was fed up with putting Optimax or Tesco 99 in my RSK B4, hence why I bought a couple of Golfs to run about in.
You can map them to run on higher octane fuel, but I cant get it without travelling a 40mile round trip.
These go well enough for what I need on normal stuff, in fact there is only about 10bhp between the different octanes, and as said before, no 2cars are exactly the same anyway. Still more than the earlier Golfs with the K03 turbo maps to.
