Title: Wolfsburg edition
Post by: Terryvdubgolf on 05 September 2013, 20:19
Hello all, new to the Vdub scene and have treated myself to a so called mk4 golf gti Wolfsburg edition, I have done a little research and can't seem to find another mk4. Is there such a thing??? I have all the import documents which say its a Wolfsburg also the engine code is AGU which I'm told is the 180bhp forged engine, log book just says its a gti which I'm told it will do as its an import. Anybody help please?? Thanks very muchly, Terry

Cheers for replying guys, prodictive text is a nightmare on my phone. It was imported from Wolfsburg Germany (have a picture but haven't worked out how to load it up on here yet plus it's all in German) was imported in 2000 but I have only had it 2 weeks and restoring it back to its original self slowly. All checks I have done comes back as a mk1 golf but it clearly isn't (again have pictures of the car so will upload when I work out how too unless anybody can help??) lots of various bits around the car and engine bay say Wolfsburg on it. Don't very mechanically minded so not sure what to look for or where. Have taken it in to a Volkswagen dealer who also done checks on it for me and there's came back as a mk1 golf but the mechanics in the had a look and said it was defo the 180bhp forged engine.

Vin number would be a good start.

To get pics up you need something like a photobucket account, you upload pics to it then can link them in here.

This is some of the bits it says on import docs...
Type - 1J
Variant - SCAGUX01
Version - SGFM52J013M2
Categorie - M1
Naam en adres van de fabrikant - Volkswagen AG
                                                 D-38436 Wolfsburg
VIN - WVWZZZ1JZYW694904

Hope this helps and much appreciated fellow dubbers :)

Double check the vin number with what is actually on the car. Any vin decoders are coming back with invalid check digit in what you have posted

agu is defo the 150bhp engine which would be correct as 180bhp never arrived until 03 in the mk4 Anniversay

The Z after the J is actually a 2

Vin is defo right bud, I have check over and over again and I'm getting the same problem with finding out information about the car. Checked all the vin number all over the car (engine bay, seals, boot, windows, log book) they all have the same vin number. It truly is a mind boggler to what the car is. On the log book it's only classed as a 1800 gti standard not 20valve turbo, I have been told by friends who have imported jap cars this is the norm but obviously this is German so can't compare to jap. It has import documents and stamps to prove and also have the original receipts of purchase from Germany (again in German which I cannot read) finding it hard to get bits for it and very expensive which don't mind too much as it is a nice car, also should it be costing £500 to have a standard exhaust on?? It is an absolute animal when it comes to power as it (if this sounds right) KD04 turbo instead of the KD03, stage 1 remap and ecu, all I need to get is a nice front mount. The front bumper on it I cannot find another anywhere, has vents on the side with a weird what looks like a mini inter cooler on the left side behind the bumper.

It's defo a Z and not a 2 bud, it has 4 Z's in total on the vin.

Have you HPI'd the car?

Thom

Alarm bells would certainly be ringing in my head...VIN number not coming up with anything, wrong engine on logbook, checks coming back to a completely different car.

I'd be interested to see some pics of it.

Have you tried using Google Translate to translate the documents into English? It'll be a bit time consuming typing it all up but might be worth a shot?

see i think this is where the OP's issues are coming from. that above reads as a mk1 GTI 1800 with a year of manufacture of 2000!

yet 1j is mk4 platform

Lose the wheels, back bumper bonnet and your on to a winner. Car itself is a lovely colour and has potential

Trust worthy guy so password is - ******** and the username is the same on here so have a look. Yeah bumper is going to be an r32 rear, r32 side skirts, bonnet is going standard with the bad boy to match the grill, looking at getting the scirocco twist wheels, carbon wrap is coming off the roof and bonnet, standard exhaust is being fitted tomorrow, window tints are coming out then its going for a full respray (same colour) front mount has been ordered but no way going to be seen as I'm keeping the front bumper as can't find another anywhere so stands out, once all work is done (hoping to finish by the end of jan 14) I'm taking it for a drive round Europe.

Mod note: Edited as pictures have now been posted.

And no, swapped it for a 1997 Subaru impreza turbo 2000 awd, by far this is the better car :)

Have uploaded the dyno print out to my photo bucket which which the dyno was done on 14/01/13 by previous owner. Since then it has had a paddle clutch fitted 26/03/13, custom remap 03/05/13 by remap wizard at the cost of £240 again by previous owner and was told by Volkswagen it had a kdo4 turbo instead of a kdo3 turbo when they looked at my car (just what they told me as I don't know much about cars) really have had this car at the 160 on the clock but I know you can't trust speedos as there always out (was going down hill too) Again car speaks for itself in performance and anyone is welcome to test drive. Only reason it's having standard put on is because I tried to change the manifold to front pipe gasket and snapped 3 of the 4 bolts when tightening (did say I'm not any good at mechanics) so had to get it in a garage ASAP before it started doing damage to the engine so had to get a standard 1 fitted, yes I know you can get better 1's for the same price but need my car for work so can't be waiting around for 1 to be made up but will when I have time and money.

Dyno chart for anyone interested:

(http://i1288.photobucket.com/albums/b497/Terryvdubgolf/a5c1118d-11bc-4197-9b4b-f175f9bc99aa_zps32fae640.jpg) (http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/Terryvdubgolf/media/a5c1118d-11bc-4197-9b4b-f175f9bc99aa_zps32fae640.jpg.html)

Those figures look like stock AGU with a few breathing mods, certainly not the power you'd expect from a 180bhp lump.

Welcome, looks a good project mate, keep up the good work, I'm on a standardise project at the moment with my MK4, mine was proper chavved when I bought, it, now it's starting to look normal again lol..

As for the exhaust, for £500, Top Gear in Bridport can do a full custom....(CAT, Middle and Back boxes) stainless steel for that money, so shop about, you can pretty much tell them how loud or quiet you want it, S/S is defo the way to go..have fun

that kind of money got me a full 3inch from the turbo back with a downpipe i asked to be made in sections as the s3 downpipe is a nightmare to remove so its now ten times easier an custom twin pipes at the rear to suit the bumper on the car

2.25" dark side fmic kit (from eBay, not sure if its a good make as don't know what to look for, will be here next week sometime) boost valve controller, red hoses, pipes etc,

The Darkside kit is for diesel engines, they specialise in diesel tuning, I spend a bit of time down there and Matt at Only Charged Dubs (forum sponsor) works along side them. Between them they have developed a 1.8T FMIC kit which can be found here:

http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/products/1-8t-mk4-golf-platform-front-mount-intercooler-and-pipe-kit.html (http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/products/1-8t-mk4-golf-platform-front-mount-intercooler-and-pipe-kit.html)

They used my car to develop it on as can be seen in the pictures. That will fit behind the bumper you are running easily, it fits behind my standard bumper with all grills still in place.

what brake was it running on the printout and what brake will it be running after the remap, is that 190bhp your saying?

The printout shows about 160bhp and 181lb/ft before the remap, after the remap I would expect it to be somewhere around 190bhp. The Ko3 turbo that comes on an AGU maxes out at about that, if you want more power than that you'll need to change the turbo

Exhaust sounds good btw :afro:

Ideal buddy thank you, will follow the link and see what they can do also if I mention you put me on will that help you out in the future and maybe give me a cheaper price :) will cancel my order for the dark side front mount as mine is not a diesel :/ much appreciated advice people and also will look into the turbo more. Have found a place in Plymouth that do dyno runs called Alan Jeffrey's, they specialise in japense cars but they may be able to give me a little more info on mine, fingers crossed.

I love the grey Mk4s. Not sure on the styling but it's not my car, as long as you like it that's all that matters (I'm starting to sound like my dad...)

If you found out exactly what mods you have done to the car we could give you a rough idea of the power output. If it has the original K03 turbo on there you won't have any more than approx 195bhp, if it has the K03s it can give up to around 230bhp with supporting mods. Have a look in the project section for an idea on what needs to be fitted to achieve the power you're chasing
