Title: Sub or no sub?
Post by: Bigbadbobbie on 05 September 2013, 17:08
Hi there,
I'm sure this has been covered before but I have just spoken with my vw dealer and I was told that there is only an amplifier in the boot and not a subwoofer with the Dynaudio sound pack. I have looked on the dynaudio website and they claim that the "excite" sound pack does have a subwoofer.

I ordered my GTD in July and so my delivery is not until December 2055! If anyone here is lucky enough to already have their GTD/GTI with a sound pack please can you confirm this either way and possibly add a picture or two?

It defiantly does have a sub, your dealer doesn't know what hes talking about. Pic of the sub: http://www.flickr.com/photos/58190042@N03/8536330173/

I do appreciate the pictures guys..... So it is a fact that what we are seeing is not just an amp fitted into the spare wheel? It has a built in sub too? That is pretty damn smart!

Yep, that's my car in Jimble's link. Sub in the space saver spare wheel, and an amp under the passenger front seat.

"The Excite Sound system integrates with the car's standard Composition Media System, but can also be specified with the optional Discover/Discover Pro navigation systems.
As for audio, the Dynaudio set-up includes nine speakers around the cabin, a dedicated subwoofer and 400W digital amplifier. The dual two-way systems (one each in the front and rear pasenger compartments) each comprise a pair of Dynaudio soft-dome tweeters and two 16.8cm MSP mid/bass drivers."

Taken from the above link.

The Amp is under the passenger seat, the sub in the spare wheel :)

There have been loads of great reviews of the Dynaudio setup recently.

How much is Dynaudio? I might have to get down to the dealers and check out the standard kit!

It's 500 notes - literally nearly as big a no brainer as the PP  :lipsrsealed:

Only problem now is that if I add it to my order I'm worried it will delay things like the camera did!

Take the camera off, add the dynaudio on, move your order forward a few months!

I didn't go for the camera but worried there are hidden delays with DynAudio that's all, going in for my first actual test drive on a PP Mk7 on Monday so I'll quiz the dealer then.

Hi, new to the forum guys . I have read on a different thread that the Dynaudio isn't even worth the money?? Has anyone got theirs yet and are they just talking s**te?
Is it any comparison to the Bose (Audi) or the Harman/Kardon (Merc)?

I wouldn't expect it to be as good as the Harmon Kardon, but hoping it's better than the BOSE. Will hopefully let you know soon

This might help: at the moment I have a courtesy car, mk 7 Golf, which obviously has the standard stereo. Have to say its pretty good, certainly better than the missus' standard system on her Alfa. But... and it's a massive but for me, I've come from a TT which had a BOSE, and the standard VW is severely lacking in base and higher volume quality. I've had Dynaudio before so I know how good it is, and IMO it's a no brainer if you enjoy music with base and listening to it loud. I can tell the difference instantly. That's not to say the standard system is rubbish - it's not, it's good - but if it was me I'd upgrade. Which is what I've done!

IMO yes, but I'm no expert! Have a google, the BBC use Dynaudio for stuff for eg.

I have been having nightmares/regrets of not adding dynaudio on my car spec.

So I actually went to the dealer today and added dynaudio to my car spec, the sales person assured that the addition of dynaudio will not cause any delays.

However, he mentioned that due to the high demand of the car the factory has a shortage of 18 inch wheels and this might cause my car delivery to be delayed.

Wut? How the hell can they have this many different shortages.

I reckon they have a patented VW magic 8 excuse ball that they issue to all their dealers.  Did this chap turn around and shake something right before telling you this?

Never heard this excuse before....What next?  Delays due to shortages of cup holders? Fuel tank caps?

Obviously as a car manufacturer its very easy to run out of something as unusual as the standard alloy wheels.

Love a good VW excuse!

Couple of days experience with Dynaudio and it's awesome!

Quality wise, there's not a chance it can be compared with the standard setup. You can tell the difference between the rates mp3 etc have been sampled at quite clearly. Have found my self changing album because the quality wasn't as good on some.

The volume is insane, I've only cranked it up about three quarters messing around and no way would I be able to cope with it that loud. No sign of distortion whatsoever, interestingly even with the bass thumbing away no panel vibration either!

One slight negative, if you have it quite quiet, it seems very top heavy with the levels set flat. Must be something to do with how the crossover is set up for the sub.

I had been prepared to be slightly disappointed with it after reading some of the comments about it on here. All I can say regarding any comments thinking the difference in quality is only slight compared to the standard setup is that I couldn't disagree more. The clarity is better than the Harmon Kardon system I had in my BMW at almost twice the price.

Great feedback, I thought the same after my test drive the other day - the clarity is impressive at loud volumes but a slight tendency for the sub to pop at lower volumes.   Never tried HK  in a beemer but I guess it could be the name you're paying for?  I know DynAudio is well known but not as well as HK.

Needless to say I added it to my order

On the mk6 it is fantastic, I am sure that the mk7 will be better as it includes a sub woofer in the spare wheel.
