Hi guys,
I have recently bought a GTI mk4, since I have had it I fitted new wishbones, track rods, CV boot etc for MOT.
However when you start the car the reverse lights stay on, at first turning the car off and back on would get rid of this, but it has now got worse and stays on.
I am guessing I have to connect it to a VAG system?
It would be worth mentioning the battery has died once?
Many thanks & I'm glad to be a member of the forum!

I suspect you have a faulty switch on the gearbox, cheap and easy to replace.

I was thinking the same, recently done the brake light switch was is under the steering wheel.
I am guessing this should be near the gear box somewhere?
Thank you for the reply, I will try and have a fiddle tomorrow morning!

Switch is on the top front right of the gearbox.

ok thank you, is it difficult to take off? or is it a straight swap?
I will keep you updated once I have done it!

Easy just unplug and unscrew, dont over tighten as they can sheer off

Ok having difficulty
Found the switch and it won't budge so thought take the battery out but the bolt holding the tray doesn't wanna come out.
:(

Is it just stuck or rounded off?

Managed to move the battery
Problem is now I have undone the connection to the switch but the switch just won't budge
I'm guessing the nut it's attached to isn't meant to be undone

Got the switch changed and problem solved
Managed to squeeze the battery out and change the switch only problem is the big bolt at the top of the battery tray not coming undone and now the battery won't go in properly.
