Title: Has anyone been offered any sweeteners from their dealer?
Post by: simonpolly on 04 September 2013, 19:04
My dealer has been on the phone to my Mrs Today, the dealership have offered us free paint protection, free wheel and tyre insurance and a hamper as an apology for the car taking so long.
This all seems pretty good to me being as we haven’t really complained and I don’t blame the dealership. :undecided:

All rubbish. I'd rather have the 3 year service plan included.

paint protection is something the dealer don't pay for anyway and depends what size hamper

Yes absolutely, sorry I didn't mean that to come over the way it sounded. I'm very sceptical of paint protection and tyre insurance. They are relatively low cost for the dealer. The three year servicing plan might be more valuable to you if they would consider it.

To be fair the OP's dealer sounds like one of the better ones. If the OP hasn't complained and the dealer has taken it upon themselves to offer a few extras then good on them for doing so

Don't think i'm going to get anything extra, despite being initially estimated as BW25/26 (before my dad's car jumped the queue), confirmed for BW33 and being built at the start of BW35.

I suspect any goodwill gestures will be coming out of the dealership's profit margin rather than VW UKs - VW UK have historically accepted blame for feck all.

I've been offered nothing from mine, and I do feel I am due a little something.

My Scirocco needs servicing (which it wouldn't had the Golf arrived in time).  I've not had it done yet, but I was hoping(in vain) that the dealer would offer to sort my Scirocco out either for free or very cheaply.

if you've got a fixed part ex then I wouldn't bother getting it serviced. let the dealer sort it after you've traded it in.

Exactly. Mine is now due a service - not my problem, should have had my car 6 weeks ago so tough sh1t they'll have to swallow that one.

i think mine was a known fault so I'd push for it to be done for nowt if it is just a sensor - especially if youve bought from the same dealer

Seemed to be a common fault.

This light can be many things but I had it on my mk5 and turned out to be the fuse for the sensor, not even the sensor itself!

I got a new Mk7 TDI SE Bluemotion  3dr with Leather to use ,not because my car was late ,because I negotiated
it at point of order should I sell My MK6 R ,which I did Quite Quickly , that they would lend me something .
The dealer was spot on with delivery about 16-20 weeks (because of high spec ) and from previous experience ,
get the spec Right day one and let it roll

It is a demo car with 61 miles on the clock.
Manual box, performance pack,ACC,leather, nav pro, sunroof, audio upgrade, winter pack and metallic black sold on a 63 plate registered 4 days ago. Also went halves on a 3yr service pack.
Traded in my podgy mk4 v5.
Not going to say how much I paid (cash) but got a huge discount off list.
Right time right place I guess.

Seriously could not believe the deal.
I thought it was too good to be true hence not agreeing in the showroom.
Kept thinking there must be a catch for a couple of hours until I saw sense and bought the car.

Apparently they make a loss on the demo cars anyway which gets picked up by VW.
A DSG model arrived as a demo and the manual was just 'spare' taking up space so they could get rid.
Plus I paid in cash, could do the deal there and then.the planets aligned and the rest is history.
More luck than judgement but I am seriously pleased with it.

After I pick it up on Monday will maybe post some pics.

It's supposedly being built next week so in theory it should be at the dealers the second weekend in october?? I could do with picking it up on the 5th as i'm on call with work the following friday for a week and the car is 150 miles away! Somehow i doubt i'll be that lucky! ;D

Tbh mate i've read nearly all of the angry posts on here about the wait and i've waited pretty much the longest on here with maybe one or two exceptions, i can understand the frustrations but i also think that sometimes too much information can be detrimental, yeah i'm curious why but it can drive you nuts!!

I know what you mean. I'm in no position to comment because my delivery was exceptionally quick but the waiting game can pretty much take over your life if you not careful. It's not easy to just accept it when it's something you want so badly but you appear to have coped with it well. At least it's not too long now and you will appreciate even more when you get your hands on it

Thanks mate, tbf it's been helped by the fact that i didn't want to take delivery till 1st of september as my current finance would be cleared by then, so instead of it being sat in the compound for 2 months i'll get it pretty much as soon as it lands all being well, i'd be more annoyed if my trade in value depended on delivery date but my dealer is standing on the original quote so no big deal, i'm going to drop my retention certificate in next weekend and he's told me i can have their demo for a couple of hours so should be a fun afternoon!! :D

Gotta be honest though the recent pics are getting me a bit more excited!! 8)

Lol! Thanks mate, as i've said i think getting too involved in the process will just drive you nuts! There is no point getting TOO angry about it as it won't make it arrive any faster (apart from MH getting prority shipping) although i can understand the frustrations and a forum like this is an ideal place to vent!

I think waiting 6 months for my mk6 has prepared me a little but it still sucks that we have to wait so long, i'm sure it'll be worth it in the end though!

I got a bit of compensation from my dealer today (after having complained).  They don't want to buy my Scirocco so now I am stuck with the hassle of selling it.

I explained that no-one is going to want to buy a Scirocco that is already due a service and requires an MOT renewal very soon.  Because it is a 59 plate with almost 45k miles it is due a big £350 service.

So they have agreed to service the car and MOT it for £150.  I'm sure they are not losing any money by doing that, only making a bit less - but it does make things a bit easier for me if I chose to sell the car privately or to another dealer.

I have to admit it's hard to keep a positive attitude about VW when you read all the horror stories on here. I'm quite lucky because they've given me an estimated date that's super close, so as soon as they go over that (I'm almost certain they will as it's due in just over 7 weeks and the car doesn't even have a confirmed BW as far as I'm aware) I'll be looking for some kind of sweetener to stop me going elsewhere.

Interested in your "Luxury Mats" addition.  Are the ones that come included with the GTI not luxury? Think decent mats make a massive difference to the overall feel of the car, so will want some of those myself.

The standard mats are sh!te - very thin and not even a Golf logo on them. I would've made better ones out of a pair of "contractor quality" carpet tiles.

That is a bummer, the ones in my Scirocco are really nice.  Seen the previous discussions on here that there are no specific GTI mats, which is a shame.  But will probably get some luxurious golf ones to replace the standard issue.

The standard mats are ok. They'll certainly do a job over winter and I will be holding off buying any luxury ones until spring next year
