Title: Top Car Commandments
Post by: Booth11 on 01 September 2013, 20:37
My kid was whingeing today that she wasn't allowed to eat crisps in the car - "there are so many rules", she said.   It got me thinking.  So just for a bit of fun, what are your top car commandments?    Here are a few of mine (in no particular order):

1.  Thou shalt not permit consumption of food in car - broken, by others
2.  Thou shall only use Shell V Power fuel or equivalent - obeyed, even though nearest Shell garage is 7 miles away!
3.  Thou shall clean car at least every 2 weeks - broken
4.  Thou shall park as far away from any other car - obeyed, well almost!
5.  Thou shalt not use car to transport rubbish to tip - broken, today
6.  Thou shall park miles away from kerbs to protect diamond cut alloys - obeyed, but hasn't worked  :embarrassed:

I will never rev past 3000rpm until the oil is up to temp.....

Or is that a bit too OCD.

Thou shalt never use a was stripping, swirl inducing chamois. That's what fluffy micro fibre drying towels are for.

Thou shalt not wear clothing with zips or buckles at the back.
Thou shalt not trap the seatbelt buckle in the door.
Thou shalt not scuff the sealing rubbers with thy feet on the way in or the way out.
Thou shalt not bring dog sh*t into the car on thy shoes.
Thou shalt not close the door except by the handle and though must be exceptionally careful when wearing rings.

Thou shall not turn the radio volume knob so that the little line does not sit at the 12 o'clock position.

Thou shalt not under any circumstances allow the dealer to wash thy car when it's in the garage for servicing or repairs!

Thou shalt always use the recessed hand holds in the interior trim on the tailgate when closing it.

Thou shalt not slam my car doors when closing them; they don't need it, so don't do it!

Regarding slamming car doors, its people who don't own a car that  I find slam car doors the most.

Yes!  Mine went in for first service yesterday, with a massive cardboard sign in windscreen "do not wash this car - please".   Also made them write it prominently on the worksheet and mark with highlighter.  Very relived to see it was filthy when I collected it.  I always send it in dirty so I can tell.

Thou shall not turn the radio volume knob so that the little line does not sit at the 12 o'clock position.

Haha, I knew this one would get a mention.  Strangely it doesn't bother me at all.

It didn't used to bother me either, but once someone mentioned it a while back on this forum, it does now! Irritates the hell out of me if a passenger adjusts the radio volume and the vertical line on the volume knob is no longer at 12 o'clock.

I also have to make sure the cigarette symbol on the lighter is in the horizontal position, even though it's never used and is hidden away in the ashtray!

For me it's the dual climate control.  I have to have both driver and passenger gauges synced to the same temperature.  Kind of negates the whole point of it!  The passenger gets no say in the matter

i also like even temperature numbers on the climate

Yup even numbers on climate, and volume at 12 o clock position.

If I am driving the car and wife wants to change the volume she will lean across and do it off the steering wheel controller rather than turning the dial
