Title: Cancelling GTD
Post by: Trickyterrier on 01 September 2013, 12:57
Hi I'm new to the forum and would like some advice please.
I ordered a GTD back in May and have a build week of 2nd week in October (week 41), how difficult will it be with the dealer to cancel my order at this stage, the reason being I think i have made the wrong decision and really want the GTi.
I know I will naff off the dealer but would they be able to do this?
Would I lose my deposit?

Many thanks in advance
Richard

I doubt you'd lose your deposit if your going to order a GTI from the same place? I'd be more worried about going to the back of the queue tbh, although you might be lucky and keep your build slot as it will still be an unconfirmed week but be quick!

Check the t&cs depending on the dealership you can cancel if there is a delay of more than 'x' weeks after your order is accepted. That being said your still wanting a vw so I don't there should be an issue other than annoying the dealer. Tbh I was thinking of doing the same before my gtd  went to 'build'

You shouldn't have much bother getting your deposit back if you get a GTI from the same place. You probably won't have any bother anyway - the dealer will sell that GTD to someone who wants to jump the queue, no bother.

I did exactly what you're about to do back in late June.

My dealer simply kept my original deposit and switched the order from GTD to a GTI after settling on a figure.

My order went back by a few weeks (from BW 38 to BW 42 and now settled at BW 40). However, you must check with your dealer first as he could turn round and say the GTI will be Jan 2014 for delivery!!! Then you have a difficult decision to make.

Trickyterrier: Have you had a confirmed build week on the tracker yet? I suspect you will have by next Friday if your car really will be built in BW41. If the dealer can cancel before build week is confirmed then they should be giving your deposit back. Maybe you can jump the GTI queue by taking on a cancelled GTI - there are a few to choose from here.

Not on online tracker yet, just by dealer who said it should be WK41.

One slight spanner in the works is the PCP on my GT tdi which finishes mid Sept (traded against the new car) they will probably say the value of my car will be substantially less if the gti arrives in say January. Also I don't know how long you can keep your old PCP car after your 3 yr term finishes.

Yes, starting again does have a downside (apart from the wait) - they will undoubtedly revise the terms of your p/x value downwards unless they can get you a GTI as quick as they can get you your currently ordered GTD. You could find yourself with £1500 less p/x against the GTI.
