Title: reverse gear

hey does anyone know why the mk3 gti reverse gear is such a common failure? and yet the mk2 gti never had any bother but used pretty much the same box :huh:

I don't know but mine clicks when you reverse - was told it's a common fault and speaking to other owners that seems to be the case

Is common on mk2 as well as crunchy second.
Contrary to most I find the gti box quite reliable and tough.
Only one diff failure in about ten cars, and that was on 160k original box.
Try owning a french car :laugh:
