Title: Turbo or engine swap

Am I being mad :laugh: wanting to turbo my mk3 gti 16v or am I just barking up the wrong tree??? Would it be better just to do a engine swap?? If so what is the best/easiest way to go about it.

What engine to I swap to? And is it really cost affective

Do a search, hundreds of threads on what to do.

1.8t is the best bet but is not cheap or easy to install

I would 100% turbo the 16v  :wink:

easy if you got cash to buy parts.

Not being funny but most people that buy mk3's dont have the money to do a proper turbo build so this will probably never happen

Tweed you interest me saying its easy to do if you have the money for parts! I'm not doing too terrible atm and remember a thread I saw on here someone turboing there mk3 abf I have thought about to doing it but wouldn't have a clue where to start!

Got the bodyshop first then decent collies and alloys.. Is it really that easy?

everything is easy if you know how to do it :smiley:

Hey

I thought about this for the last year. I am now going down the 20v Turbo route but there is lots of info out there for this.

Get friendly with Google.

I knew best part of nothing last year, now im happy doing the clutch, water pump etc thanks to google, the forums, you tube videos etc. Depends how serious you are.

Hey man :) Thanks for the reply saved that page to my favorites! I would love to be able to do it all I just don't have the time, I work every hour under the sun and moon lol, day shifts night shifts different hours I'm always at work!

Some things I will do in my spare time but i'd never have the time to put a turbo abf together, wouldn't have a clue to star with all the bottom end stuff haha! Just have to get someone else to do it which costs   :sick:

But then I love the golf ;)

stick on an electric supercharger. it will take 5 minutes to fit and give you gains between 0.25 and 0.35 bhp lol.  its really not difficult to turbo an engine once you have all the parts together. and the exhaust manifold is so much easier to get to on the16v than the 8v. you should buy a book on turbocharging.
