Title: rust, what did u do?
Post by: Cerialkarpins on 29 August 2013, 17:43
hello. just had my car looked at for rust bubbling. the guy said it was a stone chip so i questioned it and he changed his mind and said it must have been painted, because he's only seen it happen on cars that have been painted. when i told him to my knowledge it has never been in an accident, he then said "were not a bodyshop, so i wouldnt really know". so why is he looking at my car????

what do i do now then?
fork out for some independent bodyshop to give me there opinion? i dont quite know where to go from here, but i want it sorted and i dont think i should have to pay for it.

you lot have any ideas?
any previous experience with volkswagen that might help guide me?

Where is the rust coming through? I've just spotted a tiny bit under the front wheel arch, going to get at it with some rust killer before it gets worse

My golf mk5 also has signs of rust coming out on front wheel arches and back ones - is vw uk doing this free of charge or is it too late now?

as long as your car is less than 12 years old and being a mk5 it will be

I don't suppose it matters if it's a full main dealer service history? I've already contacted VW UK - will let you know whats the outcome.

took mine into the local vw garage today and because it's had a bit of rust killer on it they said vw wouldn't be able to do it under warranty/recall. but they may well contribute to the repair which is good. also found out the coil packs had a recall issued on them and when i went to pick my car up after work, all 4 had been replaced free of charge... how good is that?!
