Title: How do I say this quietly?
Post by: avalon on 28 August 2013, 12:37
Looking to move house soon to somewhere more rural which is likely to involve some building work on my part.

Rather than do what I've done before and buy a cheapy van to lug stuff around I thought about [speaking quietly now] getting a small-ish trailer to lug behind the GTI.

Have any of you guys had a towbar fitted and how, aesthetically, does it look?  I'm guessing there'll be some hacking of the rear diffuser required which doesn't leave me in a good place.

Your thoughts and comments welcome.

Best wishes,

Ava

Someone had one fitted HERE (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=188613.0)

Most of the time the towbar is removed and fits in the spare wheel moulding.

I think there is a clip off panel on the diffuser.  It may be a different diffuser than the one fitted as standard.

Vw do a replacment rear valance for a car with a towbar. Theres a blanking panel that clips in to cover the hole when the towbar is not in use, fitted. Unless your looking for the difference most owners and people would never know the difference in the rear valances. Iirc the part number of the valance is 5K6 807 521 9B9 or maybe 5K6 807 397 C 9B9

I've got a towbar fitted for our bike rack. As Snoopy says, the rear valance is near identical with just a small panel that clips out/in to cover the towbar when not in use.
