Hi guys,
I have a question for you lot,
what is the pressure output of the power steering pump on a mk3 on idle? also the same for a mk2 pump....
iv fitted a mk3 subframe and engine to my jetta, inc p/s from a diesel mk3. my issue is that during idle speed there is no assistance but at greater RPM there is assistance.
I believe i have fitted a mk2 pump and the pressure is different through the lower rpm. I have even had a new rack and pump so i am discounting these having any operating issues.
Thanks guys.

part number of components you have fitted??
could well be that the pulleys are different - i.e. gives you a different gearing ratio and pump does not get enough rpm at idle

That was not something I had considered. I will double check when I get home, thanks.

Double check that the PAS pump isn't faulty.
I upgraded all my mk2 16v alternator/PAS/battery cables etc to mk3 items last year and I had this exact issue with the PAS pump.
Turned out the pump was faulty and the valve inside was sticking open - so in effect it wasn't pumping properly. It had no PAS at idle and low speeds, but gave PAS and pumped properly when on the throttle at higher RPM.
A replacement pump sorted this.
