Title: 6 speed or 5 speed gearbox ??? which is better ???

Hi there im running a 300+ bhp mk4 Golf and have a 5 speed gear box currently fitted but would a 6 speed gear box be any better ???

I think you will benefit from the 6-speed, Having driven my mates Mk4 1.8t on a stage 1 map it all ways
felt like it needed an extra gear.

My LCR is 6 speed and feels far better,

if I was going to go through the trouble of swapping gear box personally I wouldn't be putting in a 6 speed box, id be changing all the gears for ones with better ratios.

iirc 1-4 is the same in a 5 speed and 6 speed.
then on the 6 speed box the 5th gear is a different ratio and 6th is a different ratio...

but I could be wrong..

I have a 6 speed and have notcied when going into red from 3rd into 4th, when you change gear into 4th and 5th, it drops right into the max power band or just in the start as you up the gears.

I liked the 5 speed for around town but on the motorway I always felt like it needed 6
