Does anybody know anything about tyre sizes? I've just got some 14" VW alloys - three of the wheels have 185/60 14 tyres on them, but one has a 185/65 14 tyre on........
No idea what these numbers mean, but want to know if a) it would be legal to run all four on my car b) it makes any relevant difference......
Any help appreciated.
Cheers :undecided:

185 - tyre width
60 - tyre profile
14 - wheel size
letter - speed rating..

185/60 HR14 is the correct size if I were you I'd replace the 185/65 14 one as it would likely fail an MOT . Check out www.motuk.co.uk/manual_410.htm

Thanks for the speedy responses - that link was interesting, would these tyres fall into the "80 to 82 percent" category mentioned? The other bit I found interesting was the mention of tyres "fouling the body". The wheels that are coming off my car are 17s and they scrape all over the place, plenty of fouling going on. Good job I got some smaller wheels really...........The previous owner must have had a spare set of smaller wheels to get through the MOT.....

the MOT check list rarely gets adheared to 100% I had a mk3 years ago with 17"s and they scrubbed on the inner arch.
Car still passed.
