I've got a MK3 GTI it's an 8V, AGG engine code, I noticed today that the revs were kinda fluctuating, so I'm thinking of cleaning the throttle body aswell as new breather pipes.
My question is does throttle body on the AGG need aligning? I know that on the ADY engine code it does, but not sure about the AGG throttle body?
Also what products would you recommend to use for cleaning?
Cars been in family for last 5 years, and it's never been done before, so it's a must I rekon!

It cut out today when I dipped clutch in to change gear. But it started up staright away.

I removed the TB for cleaning on my AGG and just lined it back up by using marks made previously by the Allen key bolts and it ran fine. I also removed the water pipes in and out of the TB, stopping hot water running through it, to cool the air temp a bit.

Sure its not a duff maf causing your problems?

it can't be the maf. It's got a brandnew maf bought from VW 2 years ago.

hmm, where have you routed the pipes now?

I think somebody should do a guide on this :nerd: I'm thinking of doing it too, but not sure how!

loop them together, but makes no noticeable difference imo.
I use FE10 and a tooth brush to clean tb, take it off once in while but no need to do it all the time as gasket can suffer.

I'm gonna buy a new gasket so it's ok. Plus it's not been done in for last 5 years and it's only started to fluctuate now. So I'm 100% sure it needs cleaning.

if i remember right, the water pipe comes out of the header tank, into the TB, then out into the cylinder head somewhere near the front of the engine ( i think, without looking). So just delete the pipe to the TB, and go from the header tank to the cylinder head. I didn't notice any real difference, it was the same mod for the mazda 323f BA.

Just had a quick look and the pipe that comes out of the TB goes to a housing that goes the top rad pipe and water temp sensor, i think.

do you mean you lined the throttle body up to the manifold when you refitted it. throttle body alignment is actually the butterfly position to the tps position which after careful cleaning should not need any adjustment.
-
Yeah, sorry. The TB to the manifold, not the butterfly.

So today me and my brother cleaned the throttle body and the breather pipes.
The throttle body was caked in gunk/oil. Te breather pipes were all gunked up.
Refitted the cleaned parts and adapted the throttle body.
To align the TB, is it just the case of disconnect battery for a few hours, connect both terminals, then turn ignition on, but not to start car or touch pedals, then turn it off after 30 seconds and then turn ignition on and start car without touching pedals.
The revs no longer fluctuate and it idles and drives sweet.
On the plus note, my VR6 has been sold today too
