Evening all. Want to make the most of this weekend so have got my self a sheet of aluminium to make a heat shield for my air filter.
My big ask is I know a few of you guys are running fairly similar heat shields to this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-mk4-A3-Air-intake-heat-shield-open-cone-shield-cupra-/141041255994?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20d6b6c63a
So would it be possible for someone to draw me a rough stencil with dimensions ?
-
Ill measure mine up for you tomoz..unless someone beats me to it
-
It would be much appreciated if you could bud, I've got a morning to spare on my Todd tomorrow :lipsrsealed:
Cheers man

I would have sold you the same heat shield for £15, I recently took mine off as I think its a sh!te design,
Needs a base imo and also restricts airflow to the filter.

Works fine on mine and how does it restrict air??? Your air intake is pointed right at it!!

Right so measured it up.. ruffly ..hard to get a ruler around it
The hieght all around is about 8.5". The left side of the shield(side faces front the car) is 8.5" in length.. the rear is 8" in length (side the maf hole will be) and the right side of the shield ( side faces back of the engine) is 5" in length.
Width ofcourse is whatever thickness sheet your using
Only issue is looking at it its got a slanted design its not exactly square. And the brackets are sticking out on it havent added them in the sizes

how far down is the hole for the MAF to fit through?
-
All I know is the car runs far better without the shield fitted, In my opinion the sides of the shield sits to close to
a JR/Jetex filter,
-
that's what I was thinking... looks very small and restrictive, proberbly be better off putting a standard airbox in that's been smoothed out and the r32 snorkel/intake/what ever you want to call it...
-

How is it restrictive???? A heat shield blocks heat and keeps the filter cool  you would want closed up as possible to keep the filter cool
Having the filter fully enclosed in a airbox is not more restrictive then an open heat shield???
-
To be honest I would love to see the difference in intake temps with the use of the shield in the link,
I'm doubtful that they are that effective.
-
I did a physical test  ran it without the shield and the filter was hot after a good blast. Ran it with shield and stayed cool. So its a win for me.
-
Air intake temps doesn't matter a wank to me running a large Fmic and WMI I'm just bored and want to smarten my bay up

sorry was on phone, thought it covered the air snorkel/intake to the air box/what ever its called... was going to say with it being that small the engine would suck in all the air that's in there faster than the air would be able to fill it back up if you get me... now iv looked at it on the computer I can see that it doesent cover the intake so yeah egnore my previous comment...
