Title: Clear/colourless coolant
Post by: ju571n on 20 August 2013, 21:35
Right as my car has a tendency of running g quite hot and the lack of an expansion tank it sometimes spray water out of the boil over and with the coolant being pink keeps making a mess on my clean gearbox and shiny bay.

Now the question is;
I have seen some aforementioned clear/colourless coolant but cannot remember where. Has anybody heard of this or did I dream it??.

Please help. I'm fed up of scrubbing my box with a toothbrush.

Cheers J

Would it not be better to look at uprating the cooling, bigger radiator maybe.

I would investigate why it's running hot.

clear antifreeze / coolant - seen that at ASDA when I raided their DI water supply (need lots of that stuff for work)

I'm pretty sure the other fan is for aircon.  :undecided:

It's got a brand new rad on it and I fitted a slimline can on the front. I've ordered another fan now. But currently sat in traffic with one 12" it runs at 110. I put a low run switch and cooler stat in. It doesn't like running with the stat so I've taken it out. If the second fan doesn't work I've seen a shiny alloy side fill rad on ebay that would do the trick.

But in the mean time. Second fan should be there when I get home fit that to a switch thethen run some clear coolant from spasda.

BMW rads only work with vr6 coolant hose set up. 8V is plumbed opposite end.

Thanks chaps.

The fans are linked together via a drive belt so wont be for aircon.

I made the assumption it was air con as all my 8v without air conditioning had single fans and this one twin fans and ac.
It is a late run out model so could be an option chucked in??

OP, how hot is your oil getting? Could your oil not be getting cooled or cooling the engine properly?

Oil temp gauge no longer works. It failed some weeks before the rebuild and just one of those things I keep forgetting g about. I don't think the oil is getting too hot. The oil cooler is only around a year old.

I'm gonna retry the stat and got my new fan and try sort this sh*t out next time I'm home.
