Title: Small Issue
Post by: CraigW on 20 August 2013, 17:08
I've just noticed today that I appear to have a small dent on the passenger side skirt. I don't know how I hadn't spotted it before now, but I've since looked back on pictures that I took of the car after the first few days of ownership and I can see that it was there at the outset.

There's no damage to the paint work so i'm assuming that the car may possibly have left the factory like this? It's not a major issue in the grand scheme of things but now that I know that's its there, its going to bug me. Do you think that there is anything the dealer would be able to do or should I just leave it?

Does the photo have a date/time stamp and/or metadata?  Either way I'd definitely approach the dealer, mention it, and just see what they say.  My dealer has been very good at fixing things that I haven't noticed before, let's say after a service, where something is dinged/dented slightly and it could have been in any car park.

I've got photos on my I-phone but I don't think they show the dates unfortunately. The dealer has been really good up to now so I may pop in to speak to him about it.

I don't think so. There's no such dent/indent on the drivers side

Craig I don't think it's anything to worry about. I have a little indent there in mine too, maybe not as noticeable but definitely there. I remember my MK6 had similar marks on the lower sills.

That part of the car isn't as "finished" as the upper body panels. I'd say the dings are caused by spot welds or bolts behind the sills.

EDIT. I looked at mine again just now. Exactly same as yours

Thanks for checking Joe. That's great news - I think

Definitely a relief that its just the norm. Thanks very much

If its really an issue a PDR guy should be able to get it out although round about there will probably be strengthened due to the jacking points.

My MK6 had indents there for the jacking points!!

Cheers for the link mate . I suppose if its just the norm on most of the cars then i'm just going to leave it be

Thanks for checking that out. Seems a peculiar thing to see on a brand new car

It may be caused by  body stress  movement  after a few miles on the road , it's worth checking out a few new ones in the showroom to see if they have similar dents

Same here and on the passenger side only

I'll be sure to check mine when I go to collect it from the showroom and if they are there, will question why.  They may well be normal, but that doesn't necessarily make them acceptable.
