Ive tried holding the flash and indicator until you hear a beep....but that beep doesnt come!
Is there anyway to deactivate the drl's without vcds, thanks.

I thought it was in the Lighting Section of the Vehicle Settings menu in the DIS on later cars.

You can't do it from the menu settings on the MFD in later mk6s. It's not in the menu and the manual states that you can't turn them off. I haven't tried it but thought that you could turn them off by doing this (from an earlier thread)
Light switch to 0, Move the turn signal and main beam lever both down and to the rear (left-hand turn signal and headlight flash) at the same time and hold it in this position.
Turn the ignition on for 3 seconds and then switch it off again. The daylight running lights function is deactivated and cannot be switched on again.

Hmmmm, I thought you could. Perhaps you can with xenons, along with altering them for driving abroad? I wait to stand corrected.
There is an option in the lighting menu in my 2011 Passat, but then the Passat has more in it's menus to play with than the Golf has.

I have xenons and if you select travel mode in lighting menu on the MFD, it doesn't switch off the DRLs, all it does is change the orientation of the headlights for oversees driving. Unless I'm missing something!!
I thought it was just earlier models that had it in the settings menu?

Mines an earlier car without xenons but the drls can be turned on and off via headlamp flash and indicator whilst turning ignition on.
One way on the other off.

Yep tried the indicator flash for 3 secs until u hear a beep but nothing. Guess it'l have to be done with vcds

Have you checked in the manual to see what it says, its in the glovebox

You shouldn't be able to turn them off on a 2012 car as they are a legal requirement, would be a VAGcom job.

Strictly speaking they are not a legal requirement on any Mk6 Golf. DRLs are only mandatory on new models of cars first produced after March 2011. As the Mk6 has been in production since 2009, it doesn't actually need them, therefore you ought to be able to turn then off.
Also there is another oddity in the DRL law. It states that new models of cars produced after March 2011 must have them fitted, but they do not have to be operative.

Makes for really confusing reading as to their requirement

Agree.
Whatever the law, the manual for later mk6s states that DRL's cannot be turned off (page 102), presumably in order to deter people from doing so. From what the OP has said, it appears that the old method of disabling doesn't work on later models, so has to be vagcom. It doesn't bother me as I quite like them.

VW kept messing with the software every 6 months :lipsrsealed:
Its why you are all stating different things but your all correct..
IIRC
First cars 09, 10 indicator stalk for halogens. Vcds for zenons
Late 10 & 11 stalk and in display menu.
Later cars 12, 13 no option, vcds only

Well I'm glad that's cleared up
