Title: 5000 rpm limit, seems uncurable
Post by: hawky443 on 19 August 2013, 15:46
I had a misfire and a hall sender code so i replaced the dizzy, Cransk sensor, had timing done sorted the misfire but still only revs to 5000rpm
car was spluttery so the mechanic timed it by ear (no machine)

plugged it into vagcom today and got this  ( should it jump around the way it does? high number to low number?)

If its still hitting 5000RPM. your timing is still out. Also what engine are you referring to?

yea i thought so too, did you see the video there^?
should the numbers on the blocks be like that going high and low or should they be consistent?

No i have not seen the video. tbh i dont understand how the blocks work.  :embarrassed:

i've been through this phase myself. Gave car to mechanic for cambelt chnage and he knackered the timing. so had to by a new dizzy and gave it to another mechanc who understood these engines and he fixed it for me.

but all i can tell you is, if its hitting 5000RPM. Its timing issue.

Is the dizzy new? if so its good as one it can rule out the hall sender sensor due to it being a new item and second you will be able to adjust it to tweek timing as it wont be seized.

check the dizzy isn't 180 degree out, it's an easy mistake and will look fine but you have issues with timing etc
