I've searched for pros and cons

What do you want to achieve?
MK4 R32 is the best looking
ED30 is the easiest to modify for power
The question is too open ended to give an answer. You need to ask what you want out of a car and then ask the question

my choice would be the ed30 the other 2 are slow but they do sound great

^

Power over sound anyday

ED30 hands down wins for me, but a mate is sell a red 3rd mk5 fully loaded that's temping me.

Mk4 r32 agree looks best but timing chain/tensioner issue would have me continually worried
mk5 r32 doesnt have issue and is nice place to be, tax is high unless a very early 06
Lovely sound but dull heavy cars
Ed30 mapped goes like a scolded cat and feels a lot more agile, and cheaper tax
ed30 for me, will hold its.value also

Must give it to the mk5 r32 for it sound but would go for the edition 30 any day.

I have had an ED30 and a MK5 R32, both cars were amazing. ED30 was mapped, had more power and was alot quicker, and a lovely looking car, but the R32 noise is divine! Not alot on the daily commute could quite sound the same as one of them, and its still nippy but nowhere near the same as the ED30, probably due to the weight of the cars, and turbo kick.
Picking up my MK6 GTI next week, just love golfs!
