Title: Ironic Warranty Claim/Service
Post by: MonkeyP on 15 August 2013, 19:20
Just got my car back from its major service. I had a few issues with the car that i informed the dealer about which agreed to have a look at.

The list was white worm on the n/s/f alloy, dropped exhaust, leaky seal and cracking speaker.

They fixed the exhaust which was good as it was starting to annoy me. they agreed to change my wheel so they over night ordered the part for me which was great. it was even better as this was the only wheel that i had tapped against the curb so there was a 1 x 1cm mark on the wheel. they couldnt the other issues to show up so they said next time it happened just record it on my phone and that should be enough.

I picked up the car today and drove back to work. the second i got out the car i noticed a mark on the o/s/f wheel. the dealer had curbed my other wheel. i initially laughed then rang the dealer and he agreed that my wheels were in perfect condition so i should bring the car back in and should have a word with the manager.

I do have to say the dealer did help out a lot its just funny how they replaced the one wheel for a fault and then they damaged the other one. Even the assistant said that the diamond cut wheels are a nightmare for them especially as they are fitted to a lot of the different models.

Sorry a bit long just wanted to tell the story seeing as last year i went on a rant on here about them thrashing my car. lol.

Well they have admitted responsibility for the damaged alloy so they will get them fixed for me. Just a bit annoyed as constantly going back and forth to the dealer is wasting my time and means i am having to take time off work.

Inconvenient for you, but at least the're going to sort it.

Mines got to go in for 1st service in 3 weeks.  Am hoping it comes back unscathed.  I have one kerbed alloy but I'll be sure that they know the others are unmarked.  Don't want any courtesy cleaning either.

Similar story to my dealer but different outcome.
They replaced 1 alloy due to whiteworm and damaged the other. They then refused to admit liability about the damaged wheel basically claiming I was at it even although they could see all the wheels were completely unmarked!!
I ended up machine polishing the scratches out myself.

1 year later same dealer at a service (I couldn't go to another dealer) they scratched my paintwork right across the tailgate. Given that I do some detailing I knew every wee mark on the car yet this was right across the width of the tailgate!! Again they refused responsibility, even although I told them not to wash the car and they did. They offered to machine polish the tailgate in 3 weeks time as it was their busy period!!! I declined.

Traded the car in and bought the Audi, what a difference. You drive in to the garage car park where 1 guy takes pictures of all 4 wheels and then the car in general.  Perfect evidence if they damage it. Although I now take the person booking the car in to look round the car to verify its damage free so the onus is them.

It's unbelievable to be honest, I've had problems with Richard Heads touching my GTI, I now always photo the wheels etc, show the technician and then hand over the keys.  Nightmare

The problem is that they will never accept responsibility. Luckily on mine the service guy told his manager that they were in perfect condition when i brought the car in, and that he didnt check them before i left the forecourt. I didnt check the car thoroughly as they parked the car in the smallest space they could find which meant it was hard for me to inspect the lower areas of the car.

But at least they fixed the other wheel and exhaust and now are fixing the wheel they damaged. the only problem being that i am taking more time of work that i should be to drop and pick up the car and i need to someone to pick me up and drop me off.

I always walk round my car with the service adviser when I drop it off, just like they make me look round the courtesy car. It's surprising how much damage you find on their cars when they have ticked the form to say there is none. I also make sure that mine is spotlessly clean too. I think it shows that I WILL notice any damage that they may inflict.

Next time when mine goes in I am sort of hoping that they damage my left rear wheel tho', as it is starting to show the initial signs of the dreaded white worm.

Well they went round my car when i took it in and he said that my wheels were in good condition which helped.

dubber how old is your car? the white worm i had on my car was tinny but it was enough to get the wheel changed.

It was 3 years old in January, so I'm guessing it's 7 months too late.

I know there is a body protection warranty for 12 years but i dont think that it will cover your wheels. there's no harm in asking them as some dealers will help out.
