So I have managed to sell my car in preparation for the Golf in a few week/months/years.
It got me thinking about what I am going to miss about it and what I am looking forward to in the Golf. So here goes:-
Current car: Mini Cooper Clubman Diesel
What I will miss:
Go-kart handling
Pillarless doors
Stupid speedo the size of a dinner plate
Ridiculous doors (there are 5 in total)
Possibly Economy (61mpg average)
What I wont miss:
Tiny interior
Lack of Cruise control
That rattle from the brakes
Its gutless.
What I'm looking forward to:
Power!!!! (in the style of Jeremy Clarkson)
ADC
Having a VW again
Tartan seats
5 doors that actually give you access to the car
Having a new car (for the first time)
I'm interested to know what everyone else is looking forward to.
By the way as I have sold my Mini, I now have my 1967 Beetle as my daily driver until the golf turns up....Sweet

Mate I sold my audi a3 2004 sline some three weeks ago in anticipation. I put it up for sale just to see what kind of interest was around got enough to pay for my deposit on my gtd. so nothing from my pocket. Some guy came and paid what I wanted so I'm carless and have been since early July for a car being delivered in mid sep or so I'm told.
Most I miss is having a car ha ha
I'm looking forward to having a comfortable car tbh. But seriously I'm looking forward to having some fun in it.

I am currently driving a Civic Type-R Championship White.
What I will miss...
The ridiculous high revs (it hits 8000 rpm before red lining)
The noise of the Natural Aspiration when 200bhp kicks in at high revs
The Championship White Paintwork on Body and Wheels (it still turns heads after five years)
The Red and Black Colour scheme of the interior.
The Bucket Seats with Type-R embroided in to them.
The ridculously over sized boot.
The styling of the car, it does look really agressive from the front.
The way the car handles with the slip diff
The Engine
How it still puts a smile on my face now
How low the suspension is
What I will not miss...
Cleaning the White Wheels with 7 spokes (it takes hours of blood and sweat)
The plastic cheap looking dashboard
The Sat Nav (looks very dated)
The Audio Player (it jumbles up your music list on your USB Pen Drive)
The loud creaks and groans from the suspension on a cold start in the morning
The styling of the car from the back it looks better from some angles than others.
3 Doors and the latch on the seats which you pull to let people in the back.
The headlights being Halogen Projectors and not Xenons.
How low the suspension is
How some body panels in the boot try to pop out of their fixing.
What I am looking forward to...
The overall car and experience
The Handling and Power.
Owning a car with a Turbo and lower down power it brings with it.
The Quality appearance of the GTI being more refined
The new Pro Nav system
Pretty much the whole thing.
5 Doors on a car that does not look naff having them.
What I am not looking forward to...
New irritations, squeaks and creaks a new car can bring with it.
-
Coming from a Mk5 GTI I'm loking forward to the new styling, the additional toys, and more refined comfort levels. Oh, and the new car smell
-
I will miss not looking at the tracker 10 times a day and ringing up VW UK to find out what the hell is going on with my car...Not!
-
My wife is not going to miss me being in a grump every night as yet another day passes whereby my car hasn't been built!

All our wives and gf I think are in a similar boat. We should get them to lobby vw. You know what they say about a nagging women. Vw would cave and we would get our cars.

 Great idea! We'd have our cars by the end of next week!
Between this poxy wait for my car and me wanting an Xbox One in November I'm surprised she hasn't filed for divorce

  I couldn't help myself, especially as she knows its CoD month in November so it'd be very strange if I didn't buy that game on release day!

Damn I forgot about the Xbox One and PS4 - wonder if the build weeks will slip for those?! I've got a PS3 at the moment, rarely go on it, but out of principle I will buy one of the new consoles just because...!

It took me 3 weeks of ringing around/internet searching when the Xbox 360 came out - it was a nightmare! I'm expecting the same hassles this time around. Still, why change the habit of a lifetime given the hassles with getting a car, might as well continue the trend!

Amen to that! I just remembered that I placed pre-orders for day one editions of both at Amazon as soon as they were both announced. Just need to decide which one to keep...I love Gran Turismo, but it's staganted, whereas Forza seems to have developed, and is a launch title. Besides, my patience for gaming is way less now than it used to be, so can't stand things too tough and realistic!

 I'm the same - GT is too realistic for me and I end up getting annoyed! Forza is the way to go IMO but then I've always been an Xbox kid (I have both, I just prefer the Xbox). I watched the CoD Ghosts multiplayer launch the other night and it looks so frenetic I don't think my old eyes are going to be able to keep up with the pesky kids online!!

Aye, and to be fair, most people I know have an Xbox so I'll probably jump ship as I'm really not fussed at all about console brand anymore. Forza is great fun to play, but I have no patience for frantic war-based FPS games! Way too much going on!
Anyway, somewhat off-topic there, but it beats whining about build dates!

 It certainly does!!

Totally off topic but hey ho  had a ps3 for 6 Years now and COD hasn't left the console. Only time is when the new version comes out
-
Have to admit - gaming is one of the few things that has helped me keep my sanity during this wait. Just finished up The Last of Us on PS3 [Awesome game]. Thinking of some Need for Speed / Car driving action to keep me going now.

That's basically the same as me  I dip into the odd other game every now and then eg a Forza or an Assassin's Creed but its basically CoD!

What am I looking forward to
Owing a GTI for the first time
Having my first car with Bi Xenon headlights
Tartan seats
DAB radio (so i can play 6Music)
Having a car with radar cruise control
Going back to the practicality of a 5 door (new baby you see)
Using Blue Tooth to make calls
Having 220ps to play with whenever I feel like
What I'll miss about my Scirocco
It being a coupe
The way it looks (especially side on)
The colour (Rising Blue and I just love it)
The look of the alloys (18" Interlagos)
Frameless doors (cool)
It's handling ability
Excellent 2Zone climate control system (winter & summer)
Low down driving position
The Twin-Charger engine. It really is a peach that produces immense power from only a 1.4L engine.
Best car Ive ever had
What I won't miss about my Scirocco
Glitch in the mechtronics unit which has blunted my enjoyment of the DSG box
Rain pissing in off the roof through the frameless doors
Early rattles and unwanted vibrations (mostly all gone now)
Frameless windows in deep winter
High boot lip
Tyre roar on certain road surfaces
Not able to put all its power down from a standing start (tramping)
Rather feeble halogen headlights
Not much else
-
What am I looking forward to
Power
5 doors
DSG!
The nice alloys
SD music
Economy
GTI prestige
What I'll miss about my Ford
The looks
Small and nimble
Heated windscreen
Responsive steering
What I won't miss about my Ford
Low power
Indicator stalks often cancel prematurely
No dipped beam indication on dash (sides and full are there)
No sat Nav
No SD card for music
3 door
Other stuff I'll miss (maybe)
6 cylinder sound
Great leather
iDrive
Dashboard
M car rocket power!

There's no dipped beam lights indication on the Golf either unless you look at the light switch.

WAT? Aww come on, why they do this? Do no modern cars have the dipped indicator anymore? Why the hell would they not include it?
-
None of my MKV, VI, VII have had it. I leave the lights permanently in AUTO mode and unless you have a keen eye for the backlit dials it can be hard to tell if the dips are on or not.

Joy.
