Has anybody removed it? Any changes in the sound in the booth and also, any paint discoloration on the bonnet? Mine has just started falling down - one of the clips that holds it seems to have broken so I was thinking of ditching it altogether. A mate owning a TT said his car did not even have one when he bought it 4 years ago.
Thanks

I think it just makes it a bit more echo-ey. Put get some no more nail or hot glue gun and seal it back in.

I got rid of mine for the same reason. you can definitely hear the engine a lot more, but haven't noticed any discolouration yet.

In a good or bad way - Bad im guessing?
The FSI /. TSI aren't the sexiest sounding engines in the world

I agree, they don't sound like a traditional petrol engine.

I went the opposite way, I had some sound deadening material (6mm black sticky stuff with a shiny aluminium face) left over in the garage, decided to stick this on the bonnet under the insulator. Its quite heavy (would be I suppose to deaden the sound). Replacing the insulator was interesting dropped a couple of clips, so had to get replacements. It does make a difference to the amount of noise in the cabin though, so pleased with the result.
