Hey
sorry to jump right in and ask question straight away but i`m a bit stumped.
I`ve just bought a 1990 16v mk2 and tried starting it but nothing. checked pumps and both siezed so ordered both pumps fitted them and i have fuel pressure. metering unit was stuck solid so removed top and freed piston and is now freely moving. It now fires and runs for a second or two but thats about it.
any ideas guys
Thanks in advance, I`ll put a thread up of what i`ve just bought shortly

Can you keep it running with your foot on the pedal or does it cut out regardless?
Check for air leaks in the rubber intake pipe and the breather pipes, also below the intake pipe near the metering head there is an overrun cut off valve with some very iffy push fit connections, if any of those leak or the valve is not working properly it will stop the engine very quickly.
-
Thanks for your fast reply, No air leaks as far as i can see, anyway of bypassing the overrun valve for now so i can run it up to temp?
-
Anyone?
Tried again today but seems inj pump has packed up again! Unless problem with ecu?
-
Bit of a novice with cars but have a 16v and have read quite a bit about them if the car fires and runs for a couple of seconds and you have fuel pressure I would check the injectors are delivering fuel if the pumps had seized also I have read somewhere about the cold start valve with could be a faulty thermo time switch but I ain't a expert by any means
-
if both pumps had seized and you had to free off metering head piston then i would be looking at a fubar metering head, you need to check for fuel at injectors. check for spray and pattern, then get yourself a pressure guage and read this http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/fuel_injection/k_jetronic.shtml
there are other sites google bosch k-jet

Cheers will check thread out

This.

Tried again this morning and both new pumps fubard, so will get new ones again tomorrow any ideas on that guys?
-
You put the brand new pumps on and they were shot, or they were skanky old secondhand pumps?
I'm standing by the suggestion that the metering head is FUBAR. They're sensitive petals and it being seized suggests it is beyond redemption.
-
New pumps, will get new replacements tomorrow. Car was running back in march as was started back then by someone and driven but they did say it wasn`t smooth
Can the metering unit be rebuilt? excuse my lack of knowledge on these
seems strange pumps have packed up don`t you think?
-
Replaced the pumps, removed pipe from metering unit a lifted flap and runs for a few more seconds than it did.
So will order a metering head if I can find a decent one
-
i have a 16v metering head un opened but second hand i will post to you for the price of postage and then you pay if it works ok or come and pick it up from north london and if it works you can pay me,
it cost me 60dabs from ebay from a breaker iv used before. btw i wouldnt expect 60 dabs.
