firstly, how do you know if it needs changing? any weird noises to listen out for?
think mines shagged so going to replace this weekend.
am I correct in thinking all bolts associated with it cannot be re-used and must be replaced?
also, guessing you would need to support the engine/gear box while the mount is off? anywhere in particular that's best to do this? was just going to put jack under the edge of gear box with a piece of wood on it to protect it.
also anywhere I can get powerflex pollybushes from in or around darlington?

You can generally hear the engine moving about and 'knocking', the bolts should be replaced as they are stretch bolts. The engine doesn't need supporting, but you can prop a block of wood against the bulk head and the engine at the bottom to stop it tilting, though not essential with your engine mounts holding the engine and the exhaust connected.

You can get the power flex bushes cheap on eBay and if you buy now you should have them by the weekend. It's worth noting some people use the diesel bush as its apparently that little bit softer and causes less vibrations in the cabin but the choice is yours.

Cheers for the confirmation. Thought it would be dog bone mount cause when changing down from 2nd to 1st every so often it sounds like the engines going to fall out. Same with reverse.
Job for the weekend then.
Anyone got any part numbers for the bolts? Just my vw are notorious at not knowing how to use etka.
Will get on ebay and get a bush ordered tomorrow then.

I re used the bolts on more than one occasion now. They looked in good nick and plenty of thread to screw in.
I had replace a couple of ARB bolts once, paid almost £8 for two bolts IIRC.

Anybody know if this is the correct mount for a mk4 golf 18t arz engine code.

That's the one bud.
Definitely use new bolts for piece of mind like is mentioned further up they are stretch bolts and should only be used once not reused. Think of the strain these bolts are under.

Ordered the bush today. Got a text saying it will be here by 8am tomorrow. Can't complain with that service. Will pop to vw tomorrow for the screws and get fitting on Saturday.
Anyone got part numbers for the required bolts.
-
Thats the same bush as mine and i didn't change my bolts and its over 6 months now still nice and tight
