What the f**k could have caused this?
First one went after probably 2 years of having it, no biggy I can handle that.
But then a week after buying a new (genuine bosch) it f**king went, just driving in normal traffic suddenly nothing.
I have almost defo narrowed it down to the MAF as unplugged it drives the same and my boost gauge is telling me I am still getting boost, so no limp mode. (150PD ARL)
Any ideas?
Also, do MAFs come with waruntees? I still have the recipt so am tempted to let rip at ECP... :undecided:
-
14 day returns policy? for a gen part i think it is
-
arent the mafs from ECP 2nd hand ones that have been refurbed?
could just be bad look.
you got a induction kit? if its an oil soaked filter that can knaker the maf. apart from that i cant really think of anything but usual wear and tear so id just take it as a unlucky experience and send back.
-
I must call them sharpish then.
Just a Px foam filter...nothing fancy. :undecided:
-
Was it 100% a new one or a recon one, very odd it failed so quick.

I asked ECP for a genuine bosch replacement MAF...So I got what I got. It cost me £84 on a return basis.

I am running a aftermarket maf from GSF for about 2 months now. Had no issues and idles sweet.
P.s. I cleaned my plug for the maf with lecy contact cleaner as it was a bit gunky.
-
Here we go again....................
ECP maf's do not work! even though they are in Bosch box's they are sh!te.
Put a genuine one on and it will be fine. Dealer only on these parts.

That is a recon one, I suspect that is why it failed so quickly

I did not know this...I assumed they were brand new.
Where could I get a MAF that is new then? Surely the dealers will have my pants down!!

You won't get a new one, Even dealers are reconditioned,
These cars are quite sensitive to cheap sensors of any kind. Do a google search, or even a search on here and you will see many, many people have tried cheap MAF's and rarely do they report back of them working.
The dealers may not be cheap but they do work. Fitted 3 ECP mafs to a mates AUM golf, All 3 went within 2 months.
Fitted a dealer MAF and never had a problem since,
Out of interest what codes are you getting?
-
Also if ECP ask tell them your car is standard, The may decide that the airfilter you have fitted voids the warranty as its non standard.
You can tell the recon units as the seal on the box has 2 arrows forming a circle, Think they are red and green?

I really didn't know this. I have only ever bought one MAF before this one the ownership of my car (2 years), of which was from ECP - lasted over 18months, I assumed they were ok.
Good thing on the telling them it is standard  Time to give them a call...
-
mafs from vw range from £130 - £180 depending on the engine code...
think if you give them your knakerd maf they knock £80 off...
that's what it was last time I checked.
-
Not sure if they do them on an exchange basis,
If you were closer I'd offer to get you one, I pay £90 from the dealers as a good mate is
the workshop manager. I brought a spare for my LCR and he charged me £90

About £85 at the stealers, I had 3 mafs go in 3 months last year, all genuine from vw. Had the last one in since and it's been fine, up until last week wen it went again. Convinced its dodgy wiring......
However as it drives fine (just no ASR) I'm leaving it until the winter when I will need my ASR again
