Title: Rattling sound front exhaust- front
Post by: hardmonkeys on 07 August 2013, 18:34
Hi all,

Got the GTi taxed and serviced last week, done around 300 miles since Friday, loving driving it a lot :-)

...but...it has delevolped a rattle, sounds like metal jumping around, over the last few day, seems to be coming from the front...I've checked the heat shields..and they seem ok, possibly coming the cat...do they rattle when worn/damaged??

If so,how much am I looking for a replacement?

Thanks

Warren

They can rattle around yeah, they disintegrate and somestimes make their way out the back in little pieces. Might be worth a check at the back of the car. Failing that it might be a worn bush letting it rattle on the centre support or on the heat shield.

Cats aren't cheap but it's worth getting a decent one as the welds are crap on the cheap ebay ones. Could be an opportunity to decat or sports cat?

Thanks for the reply, I'll look into it, don't I need the cat for emissions cone mot time? Or is there a clever way around it?
