Nasty looking things but they o serve a purpose, helps keep tar deposits down on doors when fitted o the front.

Done some research on the search function. Seems there not that popular and would look nasty on a cw unless they were gloss black but then they would stone chip to buggery!! Guess il have to keep up with the tar spots.

Never had a big issue with tar spots on mine? Plenty of wax and they seem to come off really easily.

Mkvikens on the front of his white GTI look fine to me. Infact I did not notice them at first.

^+1. They don't stop the car getting dirty from normal road dirt, but they do help reduce accumulation of tar deposits and stone chips on the lower bodywork, not helped by the local authority in my area spreading loose chippings on the roads at this time of year - their idea of road resurfacing (cheapskates!).

They're also quite discrete looking on a Carbon Grey car.

Don't do it. They look gash!

Mine had them on and after comments on here saying how crap they looked I removed them.
They were off for 2 weeks and I gained a small dent on the bottom of the door and a stonechip on the front of the rear arch!
They're back on.
Suppose it depends what the roads are like where you live.

Think they look  and spoil the clean line of the wheel arch.  Suppose they serve a purpose though.  Guess it depends which is most important to you, looks or protection.

They're barely even noticeable. They look no more ou of place than the stupid black plastic stuck on side skirt does.

Also removing them just because someone on the Internet said they didn't look good is going a bit far IMO.

I haven't polished or waxed the gti in about 3 months and it hasn't got a single tar spot or chip along the side.

People fit furry dice and think they're class but get really upset about people fitting mudflaps. I think its hilarious.

Amen to that.

Let me guess, they aren't sporty?
Just like cars with more than 2 doors aren't sporty?
Or some other such crap.

I'm sorry to all the doubters but I'm leaning towards getting fronts, just not sure if they will fit the ed35 side skirts as I think there different to the gti?

Aren't there Bluemotion specific front mudflaps?
Same skirts...so they should fit.

Sadly they don't stop the dirt totally but I think they make a car. Just my 2p worth

I put these on the front of mine now that it's doing a serious amount of miles...after having a Focus that looked like it had been sandblasted on the front of the rear arches from stones thrown up off the front wheels, I decided I'd always have some form of protection on my cars!

Plus being Carbon Grey they aren't very noticeable...not sure what they would look like on a CW car though...

With regards to keeping the car clean...yes dirt from wet roads still gets on the car. But thick mud from gutters, country roads, and stones/tar don't get onto the doors anymore. I would prefer the looks without them on, but on the whole I think it's a good idea to have them on

Dave, that's exactly why I have them on my car, and have had them on all my previous cars. Agree that on a Carbon Grey car, you don't really notice them.
