Found this set of wheels and thinking of buying. How hard would it be to get the nasty looking oxidation away? And how?

Those are the bbs rx2's and they are known to do that. Mine wernt as bad but were bad. They need to be split and done properly other wise you would be wasting monies. Stick the alloy in an oven for 5mins to get all bolts hot so they dont snap when you undo them. As they guy who referbed mine said he heated every bolt up as they wernt budging.
Best bet would be let the alloy specialist deal with it. But be ready for snapped bolts if some do snap. Powder coating is the way forward.

Are these 6.5J or 7J wheels? Shady on here is selling a set of 7J which have new Toyo tyres on and have been refurbed recently. Your better off buying his set. When thinking about it it'll cost you near enough the same as how much shady is selling his set after refurb & tyres. :wink:

They are 7J. I have set to be refurbed and been quoted between 100 and 120 per wheel to be split and powder coated

Bloody hell £120 per wheel is double what I'd expect to pay at any of the refurbishment companies near me.

As my man says. They robbing you stupid. I paid £65 per wheel, yes more then normal but this was due to being splits (same as yours) try someone else.

I managed to get every m7 bolt out intact just gave each one a good strike to break the corrosion seal.
End result

Cost me £40 to buy the wheels,£36 in paint/laquer and some time!

Cheers thai,ive done loads of wheels since ,theres nothing more satisfiying than seeing a manky wheel turn into something special :cool:,im going to do my scmidts soon as they all have kerb rash :sick:
Wheel refurbs are well overpriced for what they actually really cost to sort out.

Not sure I fancy doing it if they need to be split.. Certainly don't want to pay anyone loads to do it either.. cheers on the offers guys, but I live in Denmark, so buying from forum members might be a bit complicated...
Is it truly stupid to try and do it without splitting the wheels?

Its doable but could get tricky at the split with crap getting in between.
