Title: BBM GTI at the Nurburgring
Post by: Croz13 on 05 August 2013, 21:35
Although most of us don't have our GTI's seems the modding has began.
I'm currently at the nurburgring at the DN9 event  & while spectating on a tourist day this was going about...

Those BBS alloys are sweet. Liking the black wing mirrors, are they just black or carbon fibre?

The wheels don't fit in the arches properly

Aye, first thing I noticed - wheels don't fit, let alone even suit the car (IMO of course!)

Don't fit?? :o

They look awesome! And the only aftermarket brand that would make it on to my car! 8)

I take it the mk6 is Neil's? I think they might make him an honorary resident! ;D

Those wheels look brilliant, especially with being lowered.

Looks top notch...

He anyone researched coils or springs from MkVII?

I guess it's all personal opinion, the wheels aren't that bad, but lowered like that so they are uneven in the arches looks stupid.  There's a guy near me who's lowered his car with big wheels....looks ridiculous!

I think BBS wheels in that colour really suit the red

Yeah, the more I look at them, the style and colour really isn't that bad, but a wheel set so that it doesn't follow the rim just doesn't look right.

The wheels are beautiful, a design classic. It's just lowered a tad too much, giving that "uneven" arches look.

I loath this kind of modding. Remaps yes, but this kind of tinkering is not for me. I have a thing about after market wheels too

This sums it up perfectly:

I totally agree.  I know some are into it big time, but I have zero interest in p!ssing around with my car changing this and that - I even draw the line at chipping the car, if you want something faster/sportier etc etc then go buy something else.  Adding all this cr@p onto your car is not for me.

Same here guys, the most extreme mod I'll be committing myself to is a Monza Red Rickbrook tax disc holder! It's so easy to make a nicely designed car look naff, and as you say, if you want more power and torque, buy something designed for it right off the bat.

I think I quite like these wheels, but usually after market wheels seem to be somewhat unimaginative like they are all a variation on a theme.

What it really needs is an actual spoiler! :lipsrsealed:

I hear ya', they could have gone to town a bit more on the rear aero stuff, but to be honest I think it looks fine the way it is, and certainly in keeping with the rest of the car.

I don't think the GTI spoiler is actually any different from a basic Golf model.  So it doesn't really have one.  I wonder what after market options are available?

Yeah, hard to say really just looking at pictures.  Obviously you do get the gloss black side fins too or whatever they are called, but I'm not sure it needs anything more substantial.  I'd have to see a picture when you get your after market spoiler fitted ;)

I'd like the car to stand out just a tad more.  Enough so you look twice, but not so much you can say for sure what makes it different.  Does that make sense?

I sometimes see a car I have to take a closer look at.  Next time I see the same model I'm thinking "oh there is that great looking car... only this one doesn't look quite as good as I remember, what gives?".  The first one clearly had some very subtle changes.

Yeah it does make sense, but I think there's enough different about the GTI for at least those in the know to spot one immediately, and cause others to need two or three glances.  Still, it is what it is, though I'm sure you'll be able to get something beefier fitted if you really wanted to, but then it starts to look out of kilter with the standard models and potentially look daft!

Yeah don't want it looking daft.

I guess it will be a while before stuff becomes available and by then I'm sure I'd be used to it as it is and not want to change it!

Err... assuming I've taken delivery by then.

Haha, spoiler for a Mk8 by then maybe?! ;)

Edit: VW do an official room edge spoiler for £315, excluding painting and fitting.  Not sure how well it would work/fit on the GTI with the gloss black fins, but if you seriously want a slightly beefier look at the back, might be worth asking, even if not worth the cash!

Hi, I have the same wheels as these although mine are 18" with 225 40 18 winter tyres, bought them last year to save the monza's from the winter salt!

My new gti will be with me early oct so they will be going straight on the new car for the winter whether they look good or not!
