Good news bad news.
Just been offered a new job which has option to have a car or the allowance.. And the car list is audi, vw and bmw only.
Chances are after 3 years will have to move abroad with the company for a while so is it sensible to go and buy the gti with my own money ?
Or do I get a gti on the car scheme... Or maybe convert to GTD ?!
Help !!!!
-
if it's a lease car then you'd be better off with the gtd due to the bik. then when you move abroad you can just hand it back. if you buy one you'll only need to sell it come moving time.
-
What you been told this in the last hour since your last post?
-
Yep !
Had the call tonight with the offer, then the HR person mentioned the car allowance or car and I panicked lol !

Good news bad news.
What's the bad news again, no Skoda's on the list ;) ?!
-
Good news new job
Bad news might have to cancel the gti order
-
Use your allowance for your already ordered gti or tell 'em to shove the job. They should have plenty of time to make the arrangements. Happy days, everyone's a winner. QED :)
-
I can take the allowance instead of the car no probs, and it will more than cover the pcp payment so tempted to leave things as they are..
Just means I will have a car to sell or store if I do get posted abroad after, but that is 2 to 3 years away..
-
Congrats on the new job whatever you choose, be able to get a mk 8 in 3 years! Or maybe 3 1/2 if you order early enough :)

Exactly. And in 2 or 3 years time you don't know where you'll be, you could have moved jobs by then. Take the allowance and that covers your car, then if you go abroad flog it - its a no brainer!
-
Keep the order as it is. If you have to sell a GTI in 2 years it won't exactly be difficult to do so. They'll be ripe and ready for the used car market by then.

Will you be doing a lot of miles with the new job?
Help !!!!

No not really for work, would be mostly personal use.
Tempted to just sick with my deal and run the gti, having said that the low emissions of the gti make it quite attractive as a company car..

If it were me and not doing many miles, I would stick with my personal order, especially as your allowance will cover your PCP. (Mine is a company car so this is a considered response)

So they're rating the GTI as a more premium car to the GTD then? :lipsrsealed:
Makes the decision easier right? Keep your GTI and the allowance!

It think it may be more down to company car tax rather than what the company perceives as the cars status?
-
A lot of companies only offer diesel options for company car nowadays, which is why I took the cash allowance and ordered a GTI

Quiet, both of you! I'm trying to conclusively show that the GTI is better than the GTD here and you're ruining it!

You guys are not helping me !!!!

The car list is all diesel, BMW, VW and Audi
Nothing exciting on there really, might have been tempted by a 125D M sport but no M sport models.
The usual A4, BMW 3 series stuff, Passat, even a Jetta. Then I spotted the GTD, its def the only car on the list worth looking at..
