Golf 2 litre GTI - I recently had a new cambelt sensor fitted and found the check engine light was still on – the mechanic I use checked the codes and now it needs a new temp sensor and a crankshaft sensor!
Along with this, on Sunday my temp sky rocketed into the red and I had to stop and wait for it to cool before limping it a few miles home….. haven’t driven it since although it starts fine, etc.
Will changing the temp sensor stop the overheating? Surely a sensor is just to tell me there’s a problem and not the problem in itself?
What about this crankshaft sensor - has anyone else had this sensor go and how urgent is it to change?
These lights on the MK Golf drive me nuts! Ahhhh!
TIA

Temperature rocketing like that would suggest waterpump failure to me...

Nope, if it is overheating you have another problem, as Dom said water pump maybe or even a head gasket issue.

Thanks, guys. Is there anything I can do to check these two items out so I know which way to go?
