I saw someone selling an 84 mk2 on eBay saying its one of the oldest mk2's in the country.. My question is.. Who has the oldest mk2 in the UK??
My mk2 is a 1.3 1984 A reg, registered on 26th April 1984.. Who's got anything older???
-
There is an A reg gti going round over here. Still tidy aswell
-
How did registration work before A reg? I feel like a cheat now calling my H reg an old car.
-
Keep the A reg alive!!!
That is a very good point.. I think it was still the alphabet.. Just started again in 83/84?? No idea
H reg is old!! My mk2 is 29 years old bless it..

I think the letter was Y (1982) before A. They only started production in 1983 didn't they so A will be the earliest?

yes I think Y was before A 83 - 84 my first couple of cars were A reg before that, they swapped the reg around for example my first Polo was A150 ORN but a slighly older Y reg car would have been something like GJA764Y. These were the days when new reg came out 1 Aug. My Golf is H reg so its a young lol but I did view a A reg one in Leeds with TEV in the reg Mars red very sweet :-)

Sounds lovely, mine's a 1992 J so pretty late!
My dad used to have an XJ6 that was a Y reg with the Y at the end, lovely big boat

An 'A' would make it a very early mk2 - one for the first and rare. Keep it alive!

I was tempted to make that comment, but thought it best to leave the door open for someone older.
And there you are.

At least the old reg made sense, these newer reg numbers confuse the fcuk out of me. and my first car was a mini, made the same month and year i was born, sadly she was scrapped years ago. nearly all the steel had turned to rust LOL reg no. EOH155L
