Chaps,
I'm beginning to hate my current phone, and its not too far from upgrade time. Anyone know if there is a list of phones that are compatible with the mk7? What I need is one of those tables showing which features will work. Ideally some idea of the stability of the BT connection with different brands/models, though I doubt there is any information on this.
In the past I've found some phones can only make calls, while others have full access to the phone book. Even then there are variations. My current phone can recognise is an incoming call is from a number in the phone book even if the contact has more than one number associated. But if I dial out to that contact I only have the option of the first number listed, so if that is a land line I need to manually remember and type the mobile number.
What I'd hate is to sign a 2 year contract and then find the phone doesn't work very well. I know retailers will often let you try them out, but a 10 minute play doesn't cover all bases I find.
EDIT:
Should have mentioned in my case I guess I prefer Android if possible as switching brands probably means a lot of apps might need purchasing again.
EDIT2:
I am aware of this http://87.230.74.92/mtv_standard_komp.html
But its not very good for comparing a set of phones, more just for looking at the one you already have.
EDIT3:
That link is sh!t anyway. It has the i9000 Galaxy S, but not the i9100 Galaxy S2.

IPhone5 works perfectly with it. Address book, etc, all perfect. Only thing I haven't got to work is the contact photos.

Are you using the 'Lightning' adaptor Joe?

Yes, I've tried it out and it works for audio just fine. I only really use that for charging though.

Good stuff, I've my lightning adapter ready and waiting!

Does the album pics from the iphone show up also if you just have the standard media system?

Great news for you chaps with iphones, but does anyone have any information on Android? There must be something out there that says what features the BT connection will offer with Android. I can't find it but am hoping one of you brainy people can!

Well, I bought the wife the new Beetle Active about 6 months ago and the touchscreen system works with her Galaxy S3 and my HTC ONE.
We both use phone, music and Audible via Bluetooth and it's wonderful!
Her phonebook also transferred across without any problem. (Favourite's were also easily added)
Without kicking off an Apple v Android debate, the latest Android devices are more versatile with Bluetooth.

Ooh, interesting. Can it handle contacts with multiple numbers? Have you tried using voice activation to find a contact and initiate a call to one of the numbers listed for them?

Yeah lets not do that.

That's a very good question. I will check that tonight if I can.
Android rules

Is the sound quality impaired at all using bluetooth to transmit the audio?
I currently have an iPhone 4 and was planning on upgrading to the latest iPhone (in colour to match my car) when it arrives. But by the time the car arrives we could be well up to iPhone 10.
One thing I am slightly disappointed by is the available positions for the Brodit Proclip on the MK7. My phone sits in a really cool place in my Scirocco. Here are the positions:

http://www.dsldevelopments.com/sitegfx/Brodit_Images/654854.jpg

I will probably go with the 2nd one as that is the most similar setup to what I have now and you can charge it neatly there without having cables all over the place. I have had ProClips in my last 3 cars and they have been great.

My Galaxy S2 running 4.1.2 crashes when trying to connected to the Mk7. To the point you have to take the battery out of the phone.

This is what I'm worried about. Phones can be very temperamental about which cars the like and how reliable the BT connection is in my experience. Its almost as if BT connections "age" as the stability seems to get progressively worse until after maybe 6 months it won't connect and I have to unpair and connect again.
Hoping I can find a phone that works well with the mk7!

That's Android for you  :lipsrsealed:

I've got a Samsung galaxy s2 running 4.1.2 and had no problems at all in the 2 hour test drive I had. it was the first thing I connected and did when I got in the car. I'm due an upgrade soon so I'll be going for the s4. the sound was crystal clear on the music, contacts were all imported no problem and incoming and outgoing calls worked perfectly.

Totally with you Bear and understand your quest  though to be honest all phones are a hindrance now, lets get back to no mobiles, no coffee shops, no Internet , no wheelie bins, AND MORE THAN ANYTHING NO WASPS.
-
My Galaxy S3, Nexus 4 and now HTC ONE all work perfectly with my X-Trails bluetooth audio and handsfree.

I'll be going for the third one. That's where I have my current clip positioned. I think this is a new mount position for the MK7 as when I checked a few months ago it wasn't available.
Can't beat a brodit

does the mk7 have built in blue tooth?

Could not agree more n some of those points (although I think you talk in jest).
Most of my mates are glued to their mobiles, even when down the pub - put the feckers away! I don't actually have a mobile - from a work point of view it was like I was on call and not getting paid for it. At home, when I worked CSPs, the missus used to ring me up from work to ask me to do this that and the other when I was enjoying my 4 days off. What did people do with their time before they had mobils and how many people did they actually call on their landline?
Coffee shops! What the hell are they all about? Everytime I walk past one the people inside have a face like a smacked arse if they're not into the free wifi on their laptop. Theres only one drink that should be worthy of your £3.50 and that's a cold pint of continental lager (or Cider on a warm day). At least you know most of it is going to the tax man and you'll probably be looking happier than the coffee shop bunch while you're drinking it! Did anyone drink coffee before "Friends" came on the telly? :undecided:
I feel I am in the minority with my views here.

Agree on these points.
SENT ON MY HTC ONE
Which connects great to my Audi btw :)

I'm with you it's no jest  I do want to eradicate wasps as well, mother f**k*rs

HTC One
not failed with anything yet - including my current Fiscon pro unit in the MK 6

QFT.
But what is this about wasps? Surely its moths you want to get rid of... unless... you don't mean that kind of wasp?
Anyhow here is another dilemma. Seems like you can't go wrong with the HTC One or the Galaxy S4. However, which network? Vodafone is out after they made me pay 18 months line rental for their V360 service despite them shutting it down after 3 months due to technical difficulties. Assholes.
I could stick with O2 who have been pretty good, but then its only 3G... and shoddy 3G for that matter (though still 1million x better than Vodacrap). The wild card is EE. They don't currently do 4G in Cambridgeshire, but promise to do by 2014. Gotta reckon they'll have 4G up well before O2 who can barely do 3G right now. But then EE prices are about 50% more (but O2 says additional charges for 4G but not what they will be).
So should I switch to EE? I'm thinking I should. Any advice?
-
If you are talking about which Network related to the Golf then it doesn't really matter as the car doesn't take advantage of the phones data unfortunately unlike other manufacturers.
The network to go with really depends on where you stay / work. 02 used to be fantastic where I worked as I could get a full 3G signal inside then a new building was erected and the signal is now terrible. In saying that its great everywhere else for me.
EE has 4G up and running in Glasgow and a work colleague showed me it on his phone. Wow it is fast. Its like using your home broadband on your phone. Lightening speed but expensive I believe.
I've just moved the whole family (5 of us) to GiffGaff that runs on the o2 network.
By doing this I've managed to take the monthly bill from over £100 down to £50 with everyone now getting a lot more data.
http://giffgaff.com/goodybags
Its a SIM only network at present although they are about to sell phones.
Going this route I found it cheaper buying my Galaxy S3 sim free and then getting the SIM. I was fed up being tied to a 24 months contract.
Now I'm free to change phones / sims whenever I like.
-
My advice mate - go for a T-Mobile contract -
Today - 'full monty' 'sim only' 12 months £26 - that's unlimited calls, texts and data - buy your own phone (HTC One )
I have just read that O2 and Voda are planning 4G starting very soon - EE 4G price will drop shortly and its a no cost upgrade from T-Mobile
Be quick though - the offer runs out at 10am :undecided:
Quote:
Full Monty SIM £26 - 12M
Unlimited data on your phone
Unlimited texts - Any network, any time
Unlimited talk - Any network, any time
WiFi access on the London Underground at no extra cost
and here is the O2 4G info

Having recently moved from Vodafone to EE I can honestly say I wouldn't touch EE with a barge pole.
4g is fast in the cities but their signal/coverage is awefull. Since the merger between O2 and TMobile I have read that they are taking down masts that have an overlap so I expect coverage to get worse
Everything Everywhere apart from phone signal apparently...

Was it not orange and TMobile that merged to form EE??

Yeah - sorry - that's what I meant
-
Just the throw this into the mix: O2 have the worst conversion rate of all the networks with regards delivered SMS's - ie. they are more likely to 'lose' your text than anyone else.
-
Well - I can now confirm that on the Nav Pro, the HTC One works wonderfully
Contact pictures come through as well
Media plays through BT too
I will see if I can figure the google stuff while I have it.

I used to be on Orange and obviously now on EE. They made some clerical errors and I was without service at all for four days, pretty despicable in itself.
Coverage has got worse in my area and I am thinking they should be called "NA" for Nothing Anywhere.

I'm on EE and have been with them since the days of one2one but it has got worse over the last 12 months since the Orange merge, i did think about switching to o2 but since they've said that their 4G service won't be compatible with the iphone 5 they can kiss my arse! At one time you could only get an iphone on o2 so wtf is going on? ???

I'm with 3 and also looking at phone/provider options come October when I can swap. FWIW though, my mum was with Orange, and now EE. At work she used to get full bars on her mobile with no issues, now she can't get a signal at all, so I will definitely not be going with them.
