Title: Need for Speed Volvo
Post by: Haribo! on 15 August 2005, 04:26
Ok my boss at work has a 360bhp volvo 850, 5 cylinder 2.3 turbo with launch control, and basically he rinses my golf and all other golfs and says they are slow, so i had to stand up for us and tell him that someday i will destroy his car in a race, and that i would do it in a mk2 golf, is this going to be possible???
Its one of those "maybe i should have kept my mouth shut" moments

1.8 20Valve turbo in a race prepped and stripped Mk2 golf should have him, A turbo tune and a few other bits and pieces will raise the 220BHP Cupra R motor to around the 290BHP mark, After that a 100HP wet shot of nitrous will give you the extra punt to out-do him on the straight, while some 16X9 inch deep dish rims with the right tires and some big ol G60 arches to take the wider stance will ensure you a nice launch, after that your gonna need some vented disks and kevlar brake pads to slow you into teh corners and some £700 FK adjustable coilovers to ensure that your able to make it into the bends faster....

all that should set you back around £10,000 and as a Mk2 will cost around £1,500 new you will have a £11,500 Car that can eat most cars that range from £20,000 new right up to £60,000

Suger in his petrol tank? Tieing the rear axel to a lamp post with a metal chain? Letting his tires down on the start finish line?

After seeing the 850 estates in the BTCC many years ago a mate of mine went out and bought one and they are cracking Q-cars.  From what I remember his only complaints were fuel economy and the fact he went through a set of front tyres every 6 months.

Just tell your mate that motorway racing is for chumps and that a Golf will loose him down the twisties every day

The problem is that the race is always the same, its a long strait by-pass then a roundabout and then strait back and the winner is the first back to mcdonalds car park  last week he challenged my 1.6 driver agaist his 1.5 diesel, haha, now that was funny, so i have technically beat him, just not in his volvo, i`ll have him, one day, somehow,

If you can equal him in power to weight ratio , then you'll be getting closer... he is running in the region of 250 bhp / tonne ... so its going to be quite difficult to beat him really , like someone has mentioned .... beating someone in straight line is a bit easy, especially as he is running a 360 bhp car... he sounds like an idiot anyway.
