Title: strange noise when i turn the wheel
Post by: candywhite12 on 30 July 2013, 16:09
there's a very subtle noise that i get when i turn the wheel when the car is in standstill or when in very very low speeds.  Feels like the tires are 'cuddling' the road, i swear i can also feel the noise in my hands but can't really understand what it is.  It's not a screetching sound, it's more like half heard, half felt kind of sound.  I've checked my tires, air pressure is as usual.  Not much into mechanics but I wish it's not something to do with the wheel axle or whatever that is called.  I don;t know if it's something to do with wheel balancing, I had my wheels balanced about 5k miles ago.  I'll have the garage look into it when in i go for my next service but that's in like 5k miles.

any insight much appreciated

auxiliary belt maybe? it runs the alternator and power steering. it makes a noise when its on its way out. unusual tho for a car with low mileage.

I had the same thing with my Mk6. Only happened when parking or reversing at low speeds and usually on full lock. Noise was a low grating coming from the engine bay.

Turned out to be a dodgy clutch which was replaced under warranty. The garage did the water pump at the same time as that was leaking.
