My Mk4 2.0 GTI has its MOT next week and I have no EML light on the dash? Under the new laws this will fail the car, anyone heard of this before? How much to get it fixed any ideas?

eh? They don't check if you have one, only if it comes on and stays on. AGUs don't have them either

^^^ This, I think you misunderstood the law

The new law states that all dash board light must come on for a few seconds then disappear, thus proving there is no problems with any electrical part of the car, if the EML light doesn't come on its a fail

A car will only fail the MOT if the light stays illuminated, think of all the thousands of cars that don't have an EML in the first place, do you really think they will never pass an MOT again?

That's what I thought! It's a tough one
-
same with all things to do with MOT.
can only fail if the component is there.
if you strip the back seats and seat belts out the MOTer cant fail you for having no rear seatbelts or for not having rear seat belts that work...

I think if I am right that's not quiet right and I am sure there will be an Mot tester who puts me right  They only test what is there to be tester but if they were installed from factory certain items are a fail. But if the car came with no light it will not fail just all light present need to light up and go out. Cars with no seat belts from factory would still pass an MOT

Will wait and see Friday
